USA top-order batter Saiteja Mukkamalla took the run rate over six an over with a few boundaries. Marcus Stoinis’ 28 off 12, studded with four sixes, took them past 100 and the run rate over seven an over. Orcas, however, pulled things back again with the wickets of Stoinis, Daryl Mitchell and Calvin Savage to make it 122 for 6 before Milind Kumar and Shubham Ranjane powered the side past 150 with an unbroken stand of 31 from 15 balls.

Despite a few early wins this season, Leeds United are already looking like they could get dragged into a relegation fight. Unlike fellow newly promoted side Sunderland, who are seventh in the Premier League, the Whites have eight points and find themselves in 16th.

Perhaps it is too early for alarm bells, but the 2024/25 Championship winners are only three points clear of the relegation zone, and have now lost their last two games.

Their next assignment is huge, with 19th-place West Ham United set to visit Elland Road on Friday night.

If this poor form continues, then the future of manager Daniel Farke could once again come into question for the 49ers regime.

Farke’s uncertain future at Leeds

The 2024/25 campaign was an unquestionable success for Leeds. They were guided back to the Premier League by Farke at the second time of asking, reaching 100 points and winning the title on goal difference.

You would automatically assume that the German boss would be safe in his job at Elland Road, but that was not the case over the summer. There were several reports which suggested the 49ers were ready to remove Farke from his post.

Pundits were also quick to claim that the former Norwich City boss would not be the right man to lead the club in the Premier League. Gabby Agbonlahor told talkSPORT that the German “hasn’t done it in the Premier League, he struggled as a manager,” suggesting they should sack him.

However, those rumours were squashed by the Whites’ chairman, Paraag Marathe. He confirmed at the end of last campaign that the 48-year-old would stay as Leeds manager, saying, “I have ended the speculation. He is my man.”

However, football is a results business, and the Whites must start putting points on the board, or Farke’s job could come under fire again. In recent days, they have been linked with a new boss.

Who Leeds could appoint to replace Farke

It would be a bold call for Leeds to sack the man who got them to the Premier League, after backing him so openly. Yet, as reported this week, they have been tipped to target Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior as his replacement.

Former Leeds fullback Aidy White described it as a “huge gamble,” although his current role in France has shown just how capable a gaffer Rosenior is. He’s handled the jump to a top-flight side well after previously managing Hull City in the second tier.

The 41-year-old, who was born in London, has a positive record in charge of the BlueCo-owned side. Rosenior has managed 48 games for Strasbourg, winning 25 times, drawing 11 and losing the other 12.

One of the things Leeds have struggled with this term is not conceding goals. They’ve let in 13 so far, three more than Strasbourg’s ten. However, six of those came in games against Paris Saint-Germain, which they drew 3-3, and table toppers Marseille, which ended in a narrow 3-2 loss.

It is certainly encouraging that the Whites would be appointing a manager who is much more defensively stable. When he was sacked by Hull, their owner said Rosenior played “a more defensive style of football,” which could work well in Leeds’ favour.

That does not mean that a Rosenior side is ineffective going forward. In fact, this season Strasbourg have scored the second most goals in Ligue 1, with 17, and have the third best expected goals tally of 15.7xG.

It is easy to see why writer Zach Lowy thinks Rosenior can become “one of the best coaches of the next 20 years.” There is plenty of upside to his game, given his tactical flexibility and the ability to coach defensively sound sides, yet also pose a great attacking threat.

If Leeds were to sack Farke in the near future, Rosenior could be a fantastic option to first guide them away from relegation and then build towards Premier League stability.

Bayern Munich continued their record-breaking start to the season as the Bundesliga leaders swept aside Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 at the Allianz Arena to secure a 15th straight victory of the new season. With Harry Kane named amongst the substitutes, Nicolas Jackson stepped up to score his first Bundesliga goal. Serge Gnabry also scored for Vincent Kompany's side, while Loic Bade put through his own net to secure the result before half-time.

Vincent Kompany's team selection raised a few eyebrows prior to kick-off, as the Bayern head coach opted to change his entire front three, dropping Kane, Luis Diaz and Michael Olise to the bench and giving Jackson a start through the centre.

Despite the absence of some of the league leaders' biggest stars, Bayern were clearly the superior side over their visitors from start to finish. Lennart Karl showed flashes of brilliance early on, curling just wide from the edge as the 17-year-old looked to score his third goal in four matches.

It would be Gnabry who opened the scoring. Played through beautifully by Tom Bischof, the 20-year-old's curling pass was severely misjudged by Jarell Quansah to allow Gnabry in behind. When the German found a clear path through on goal, there would only be one outcome and Bayern had taken a 25th-minute lead.

One would become two just six minutes later, Jackson scoring in the Bundesliga for the first time with a perfectly-placed header from Konrad Laimer's cross from the right. It was a big moment for Jackson, who had proven his credentials to fill in for Kane in the Bayern attack. He had the ball in the net a second time less than ten minutes later, but was adjudged to have gone slightly early with the goal disallowed for offside.

Just before half-time the game was safe when Bade put through his own net, deflecting in a Raphael Guerrero cross to secure another comfortable victory before the champions had even needed to call upon their in-form attacking trio on the bench.

Jackson could, and maybe should, have had a second from another inch-perfect Laimer delivery, but on this occasion the Senegalese headed just wide of the post. Soon after as the game approached the hour mark, Kompany rang the changes and took off both of his goalscorers alongside Karl, with all of Kane, Diaz and Olise taking to the field to strike further fear into Leverkusen hearts.

The away side came into the game from a possession stand-point at least in the second period, as the game began to slow down into a lull with the three points already secured. But the visitors, last season's runners-up who currently sit fifth in the division after a challenging start, never truly looked like scoring and did not have a single shot on target until the 80th minute. Christian Kofane sliced wide at the near post when given space in the Bayern penalty area, in a moment which summed up Leverkusen's day in front of goal. It was another comfortable victory for Bayern, who look very difficult to stop so far this season.

Having already scored twice for Bayern in the Champions League this season, getting off the mark in the Bundesliga was important for Jackson. Tasked with filling in for Kane against one of the division's top sides, he scored a great header and had the ball in the net on another occasion in the first half. Also played a part in the third goal with a smart first-time pass into Guerrero.

Though he missed a presentable opportunity in the second period, Kompany will be encouraged by the Chelsea loanee's showing as he proves a valuable part of the Bavarian giants' squad which will look to win it all this season.

Bayern had strong performers across the park, as Laimer was a strong creative presence while Karl continued to show flashes. Jonathan Tah was imperious at the back as he faced off against his former club. But Jackson will get many of the headlines, and deservedly so.

The big loser

Leverkusen were second-best across the park, but Loic Bade struggled and scored an own-goal in pretty poor circumstances. Giving the ball away himself in the build-up, the French defender could not sort his feet out and got it all wrong, striking the ball beyond Mark Flekken to seal defeat for Leverkusen before the break. The visitors had no answer to Bayern and can have no complaints about the result.

Skubal is set as the -130 favorite to win the AL Cy Young, which translates to an implied probability of 56.52%. He leads the American League in ERA at 2.41 while ranking second in WHIP in 0.88. He also leads the league in WAR amongst pitchers at 4.4.

The next pitcher on the odds list is Corbin Burnes of the Baltimore Orioles, who comes in at +300. He's second in the AL in ERA behind Skuball at 2.43 but he ranks significantly behind him in both WHIP (1.04) and WAR (2.9).

The other two golfers with a realistic shot of making a run at the Cy Young in the second half of the season is Logan Gilbert (2.79 ERA) and Seth Lugo (2.48 ERA).

Logan Gilbert is a Solid Dark Horse Option

Gilbert of the Seattle Mariners may be behind Skubal in ERA at 2.79, but he leads all starts in MLB in WHIP at 0.87, a touch above Skubal.

He's a solid bet at 10-1 odds if you want a longshot wager, but he'll likely need to rack up some more wins if he needs to do it. Despite his strong analytics, his record sits at just 6-5 compared to Skubal who has an impressive 10-3 record on a lowly Tigers squad.

Gilbert may be worth a bet at his current price tag, but it's still Skubal's award to lose.

It appears "Tito" is coming out of retirement.

MLB Network's Mark Feinsand reported Thursday night that the Cincinnati Reds plan to hire Terry Francona as their next manager. The move is expected to be officially announced on Friday.

The 65-year-old Francona has been a manager in the big leagues for 23 seasons while wearing three different uniforms—the Philadelphia Phillies (1997 to 2000), Boston Red Sox (2004 to '11) and Cleveland Guardians (2013 to '23). Over those 23 years, Francona has posted 1,950 wins and a .538 career winning percentage. He led the Red Sox to two World Series championships in 2004 and '07.

Francona stepped down from his position as manager of the Guardians following the 2023 season. He has dealt with health problems over the last few years, with blood clotting issues in 2020 and hip replacement surgery in 2021 that caused him to miss significant time in Cleveland.

But after one year off, it appears Francona wants to be back in an MLB dugout.

The Reds fired manager David Bell in September after he spent six seasons leading the dugout. Cincinnati, despite featuring one of the most exciting young cores in baseball, hasn't made the playoffs since 2020 and hasn't won a postseason game since 2012.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has been forced to deal with a plethora of injuries since taking over from Ange Postecoglou, with the club’s bad luck in that regard continuing into this season.

Ex-chairman Daniel Levy got so frustrated with Spurs’ key player absences in 24/25 that he overhauled their medical department for the second year running last summer. Key sports science chiefs Adam Brett and Nick Davies were both shown the door before the start of this season, with Nick Stubbings following Frank from Brentford to join as medical lead.

The Lilywhites were minus Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario for large portions of last campaign, alongside many other key men, which undoubtedly played a role in Spurs’ finishing a lowly 17th in the Premier League table.

This season, they haven’t fared much better.

Soon after Frank was appointed to succeed Postecoglou, Spurs lost playmaker James Maddison to an ACL injury which will keep him out for most of 2025/2026, with the England international on an extensive list of absentees.

Tottenham hit by injury blow as "promising" youngster Elijah Upson withdraws from England duty

Speaking to Tottenham News, pundit and academy expert John Wenham, who oversees the Lilywhites Rose account on X, says that Tottenham’s injury woes even stretch down to youth level.

Young defender Elijah Upson, who captains Spurs’ Under-18s, was forced to withdraw from the England Under-17s World Cup squad after suffering his own injury, which comes as a crying shame considering the club could have had five youth players representing them for the Three Lions.

The 17-year-old was recently handed a call-up to Tottenham’s Under-21 squad as well, playing the full 90 minutes and shutting out West Brom in a 1-0 win just over a month ago.

The injury comes as more of a blow to Upson’s personal development, with the versatile centre-back/right-back looking to make Johan Lange – who now oversees the academy as one of his many co-director responsibilities – stand up and take notice.

Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is in hot water with the FA after being accused of disgusting behaviour towards Leeds supporters during the recent Premier League clash between the clubs. The former Manchester United player has been charged over a spitting incident and has just under three weeks to respond, facing possible sanctions for his conduct.

Midfielder charged over alleged spitting

Hannibal was walking behind the goal at Turf Moor when the alleged spitting incident is claimed to have taken place – he appeared to react badly to something that was said, having been in thet area to pass a note to Clarets goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. The Tunisia international, who later came on for the final seven minutes, plus stoppage time, was the subject of a complaint by a Leeds fan to Lancashire Police. The FA then reviewed the incident, prior to launching an investigation and now charging Hannibal.

An FA spokesperson confirmed: "Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri has been charged with misconduct following their Premier League fixture against Leeds united on Saturday 18 October. It's alleged that the player acted in breach of the Laws of the Game and/or in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or indecent behaviour by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters around the 67th minute. Hannibal Mejbri has until Friday 28November to provide a response."

It isn't Hannibal's first run-in with Leeds fans. Influenced by his Manchester United past – the player spent a total of five years with the Old Trafford club after joining from Monaco as a teenager and was targeted with derogatory chanting likening his hair to that of Simpsons character Sideshow Bob during an FA Youth Cup tie in 2020 – he appeared to taunt Leeds supporters during a Championship fixture, shortly after signing permanently with Burnley in 2024. Last month's incident has seen an escalation of that ongoing feud that has now lasted several years.

What punishment is Hannibal facing?

The standard suspension in England for a player deemed guilty of a spitting offence is six games. That sanction was famously issued to Manchester United defender Jonny Evans over an incident during a clash with Newcastle in march 2015, while Magpie striker Papiss Cisse was slapped with a seven-game ban due to a previous suspension. Hannibal could get a longer ban, with reporting that it is considered a "non-standard" incident that is more complex than usual. He could, however, avoid a harsher punishment by quickly responding, accepting the charge and apologising. If Hannibal contests the charge, he would be summoned to a hearing to give evidence and an independent regulatory commission would decide what sanction to issue if he is found guilty.

Hannibal has 17 days to respond to the FA charge, but it might be in his best interest to give his side of the story as soon as possible. Premier League football is currently paused and Burnley are not back in action until hosting Chelsea at Turf Moor on November 22.

Hannibal has joined up with Tunisia's squad for international friendlies over the course of the next week against Mauritania, Jordan and Brazil. The Eagles of Carthage have qualified for next summer's World Cup, making it a third appearance in a row for them after missing out in both 2010 and 2014.

Hannibal being banned might not actually be too much of a blow for Burnley. Aside from a stoppage time game-winning assist off the bench against Wolves the week after facing Leeds, his impact this season has been minimal. The 22-year-old hasn’t started a Premier League game since being substituted 65 minutes into Burnley’s 3-2 loss against Manchester United, while that aforementioned assist is his sole goal involvement across 10 league appearances spanning 290 minutes.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made another big move that makes their pitching staff even more impressive as they have agreed on a four-year deal with left-handed reliever Tanner Scott, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The deal is worth $72 million.

This move, of course, comes just days after they landed Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki. The defending champs are now even deeper with the addition of Scott, who has been one of the best relievers in the league over the past two seasons.

Scott split last season with the Miami Marlins and the San Diego Padres and faced the the Dodgers in the playoffs, where he had some really good success against Shohei Ohtani.

The Dodgers seem poised to be even better this coming season than they were last year, which is saying a lot because they were dominant in 2024 and won a World Series title.
