Crystal Palace Must Now Unleash £30k-p/w "Star Man"

Crystal Palace have re-appointed Roy Hodgson to replace Patrick Vieira after going 12 games without a win and Steve Parish will be hoping the unpopular decision will pay off at the end of the season.

The Eagles are 12th in the Premier League table but are 11 points adrift from 11th place Aston Villa and just three points clear of the relegation zone with ten games remaining.

This season so far has seen one of the widest relegation scraps ever with every team from Crystal Palace to Southampton at the rock bottom of the table only four points apart and although it will be an entertaining watch for neutrals it will be an extreme concern for every team tangled up in the tight fight for survival.

The international break provides an opportunity for the managers and squads to work on their plan of action going into the business end of the season and Palace supporters will be hoping that Hodgson can bring his relegation-fighting expertise to keep the club safe from a drop into the Championship.

Crystal Palace have failed to pick up a single victory this year and some subtle tweaks to team selections could be just what the side needs to refresh and revive what little remains of their campaign.

One player that Hodgson could unleash when the South Londoners return to action next month is Eberechi Eze as the midfielder has not made a 90-minute appearance since November last year.

Should Eberechi Eze start for Crystal Palace?

There is no doubt that Vieira recruited some great young prospects and last season it seemed to connect well, especially with the loan signing of Conor Gallagher. However, over the current campaign the club seems to have lost their ability to control games and score goals.

Palace have the joint-worst goal tally in the entire Premier League alongside Everton, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers, so there clearly needs to be changes made to the attacking threat over the fixtures ahead.

The last time the Eagles won a game was against Bournemouth on New Year's Eve and Eze scored the second to comfortably secure a 2-0 victory. Since then, he has become a fading feature in more recent weeks by starting on the bench with just eight minutes tallied up against Arsenal during Vieira's last game in charge.

Over 28 Premier League appearances, the £30k-per-week ace – hailed Palace's "star man" by Jamie Redknapp – has scored four goals, registered three assists and created five big chances this term.

Furthermore, he has averaged 1.5 shots on goal, 1.4 key passes, one tackle and 1.5 successful dribbles per game, proving that he is a huge attacking presence on the pitch.

Not only that, Eze ranks in the top 15% of his positional peers across the top five European leagues for non-penalty goals, shot-creating actions, progressive carries and the top 1% for successful take-ons over the last 12 months, further displaying that he is one of the most talented players in his position across the top-flight.

With that being said, Hodgson could finally get Selhurst Park rocking again by giving Eze a starting role, as putting his faith in the attacking midfielder could pay off significantly in their pursuit of Premier League survival at the end of the season. He is a game-changer and that's exactly what Palace need now.

Chelsea Could Ditch Havertz For "Confident" £2.9k-p/w Teen

Chelsea's main problem this season has been putting the ball in the back of the net, and it is something of a surprise that Graham Potter has persisted with Kai Havertz as his main man throughout the campaign.

There is no doubting the German international's ability but he is far from consistent in the final third, with just seven league goals to his name so far this term, as he has continued his trend of underperforming on his xG in every season so far at Stamford Bridge.

Potter should instead consider unleashing Mason Burstow, who is continuing to catch the eye in Chelsea's academy, having become the final signing of the Roman Abramovich era when he joined from Charlton Athletic in February 2022.

Who is Chelsea starlet Mason Burstow?

The Blues secured the signing of Burstow having submitted a 'substantial bid' for the teenager last year, after he had broken into the first team with the League One club, notching six goals in his first 14 senior appearances.

He would return to The Valley on loan for the rest of the 2021/22 campaign and finished the season with six goals and three assists in 23 appearances.

Former Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson sang the young striker's praises last year after his instant impact in Charlton's first team, which remarkably saw him score with his first touch in senior football in a 6-1 thrashing of Crawley Town in the EFL Trophy.

He said: "He is a great kid. He is so confident I had no qualms [about bringing him on against Plymouth]. It was a big game to come on, a big crowd – there was quite a lot of weight on his shoulders. I was happy to fling him in because I think he can handle that.

“I’ve got confidence in him and he’s got confidence in himself. He is a good player."

Unsurprisingly, the 19-year-old is finding U21s football a little easier given his experience of senior football in England's third tier, and he boasts ten goals and four assists in just 26 appearances for the Blues so far this campaign.

Amid an injury crisis in January, Chelsea opted to keep Burstow at the club in case he was needed for the first team, which suggests that he is already in Potter's thoughts as he considers how to improve the Blues' woes in front of goal, which has seen them muster just 29 in the top flight this season.

With Havertz continuing to misfire in a Chelsea shirt, Potter should perhaps consider giving the 19-year-old Burstow his first-team debut in the coming months, as the £2.9k-per-week striker's goalscoring nous could just push the Blues back up the Premier League table.

Liverpool Tipped To Miss Possible £300k-p/w Transfer

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has claimed that Liverpool won't be able to sign Jude Bellingham this summer in the aftermath of their humiliating loss this weekend.

What's the latest on Jude Bellingham and Liverpool?

It was a pretty woeful outing for the Reds on Saturday as they failed to do their ambitions for the remainder of the season any favours with a limp 4-1 defeat at Manchester City.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp and co may have opened the scoring thanks to Mo Salah but that was as good as it got for Liverpool as the home team fired in four without responce to pick up all three points.

The defeat served as a reminder of just how much work the Reds need to do in the next transfer market as they look to get back to their best. Borussia Dortmund midfielder Bellingham has been touted as a long-term target but he wouldn't have been impressed if watching on.

What's more, when asked by co-host Robbie Savage if the Englishman was likely to join Liverpool in the summer, Sutton was pessimistic with his simple answer.

Indeed, he told BBC radio show 606 (50:30): “I don't think so."

How much will Bellingham cost?

While Liverpool were once viewed as favourites to land Bellingham, a recent report by The Athletic's David Ornstein has since suggested that this is no longer the case.

Indeed, while naming Manchester City and Real Madrid as possible destinations, he wrote: "It is regarded as increasingly unlikely that Liverpool will sign Bellingham in this summer’s transfer window."

Jude Bellingham in action for Borussia Dortmund.

As per a report in The Sun last January, teams will have to pay around £100m up front if they want to sign him this summer, while he wages could cost in the region of £300k-p/w plus a "hefty" signing bonus.

That sort of money could be a major issue for Liverpool who currently look unlikely to finish inside the Champions League places – sitting eight with 11 games to go – and so will take a financial hit if they can't reach the top four.

After the City defeat, Klopp seemed unhappy with many senior players, saying (via Sky Sports): "Four performances were okay, the two midfielders, Hendo [Jordan Henderson] and Fab [Fabinho], worked a lot, Cody [Gakpo] and Ali [Alisson] and that is very difficult."

With that in mind, the German will likely want some key transfers this summer but it feels as though Bellingham is becoming more unrealistic by the day.

Arsenal Could Find New Trossard In Hale End Teen

Arsenal’s academy production has kicked into overdrive of late, with a wealth of talent currently propping up the first-team exploits that see them sitting atop the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta must also earn credit, as a coach capable of embedding such unproven assets into the senior squad with such ease that they are unburdened by the pressures that these steps up bring.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and more all came as relative unknowns, but their youth was no barrier to their emergence into the top division.

Such is this golden pathway that has since been paved, many of their current academy stars are also now pushing for their opportunity to shine.

One such name who continues to crop up amongst their top Hale End prodigies is Charles Sagoe Jr, with the dangerous winger posing a threat to all full-backs he faces at the U21 level.

As such, the teenager could be seen as the natural successor to Leandro Trossard, who has enjoyed a fine start to life in north London but is far older than many of his attacking teammates, giving credence to the suggestion that his spot will be available in a few years time.

Who is Charles Sagoe Jr?

Billed as a 'livewire attacking player' with immense versatility by Arsenal’s official website, the 18-year-old marvel has truly shone this season in Premier League 2.

Boasting five goals and two assists, his scintillating work in the youth team even led to his place on the bench in Arsenal’s first-leg Europa League clash with Sporting CP.

Journalist George Addo Jr had taken to Twitter only last month to outline how Sagoe Jr’s displays had caught widespread attention too, writing: “Charles Sagoe Jr has been in fine form for Arsenal U21s all season. He's now Arsenal's leading scorer in Premier League 2."

Whilst Trossard has just one goal since signing in January, the 28-year-old more than makes up for his lack of potency with a fine injection of much-needed creativity.

Arsenal's Leandro Trossard.

In just 12 league appearances for the Gunners, the Belgian already boasts seven assists and was named the club's player of the month for March. Not bad for someone who's only been in north London a matter of months.

He will now be the player in which the budding stars of Hale End look at in order to hone their impressive skills and Sagoe Jr should be no different.

Indeed, the fleet-footed youngster boasts similar qualities to the former Brighton ace, with an unpredictable nature capable of causing carnage among opposition defenders.

That was notably picked up on by another Hale End graduate in Reiss Nelson, who spoke directly to the winger, noting: “I’ve been watching you, I watch a lot of the U21 games and literally, I’m not just saying this because you’re here, you have everything to be an Arsenal winger.

“You’re unpredictable, you can move on your left, on your right, you can score, you can assist, you’ve got everything.”

With this huge praise, and the pathway in sight to eventually take over from the offensive exploits of Trossard, Sagoe Jr should feel confident that his time in the senior spotlight is just on the horizon.

£360k-p/w Goalkeeper Signs Contract Amid Chelsea Interest

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea look set to miss out on touted transfer target Jan Oblak amid a fresh contract update.

What's the latest on Jan Oblak and Chelsea?

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the press of late amid uncertainty over their own options between the sticks.

Indeed, Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella has recently reported that the Blues are "making contact" with a number of goalkeepers ahead of some possible summer transfers, claiming that managerial candidate Luis Enrique would want Chelsea to "consider" the Slovenian.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, however, Romano revealed that the Atletico Madrid man looks set to sign a new contract, which would likely put an end to any speculation about his future.

The journalist explained: "We had some stories, it's not the first time, we always see Man United and Chelsea linked to Jan Oblak – Atletico Madrid goalkeeper – because officially, he is out of contract in the summer, so a big opportunity.

"But I can tell you that from what I understand, Oblak will sign a new deal at Atletico Madrid until June 2027.

“There is a verbal agreement in place, just waiting for the documents to be signed, but Oblak already said yes verbally to Atletico Madrid.

"So let's see if some club will be able to break that, but at the moment, from what I understand, Oblak is prepared to stay at Atletico Madrid until June 2027."

Will Oblak's contact impact Chelsea's manager search?

It's no surprise that some big English clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United were keeping tabs on the player – especially if his future was previously undecided, as Romano suggests.

Indeed, the reported £360k-per-week ace has long been viewed as one of Europe's finest goalkeepers, with teammate Koke telling the press last year following a 1-0 win over the Red Devils: "Jan is the best goalkeeper in the world and he's shown it again. It's a pleasure to have him and I hope he's with us for many years."

With this latest deal set to keep him in Spain until 2027, it seems as though Oblak won't be on the market this summer. Perhaps this news will make a manager such as Enrique think twice about joining the Blues.

If so, this latest contract news could be a blow for the club in more than one way, as it remains unclear who will be the No 1 at Chelsea next season and who will be the new head coach.

Man Utd: 11-Pass Flop Let Ten Hag Down Vs Sevilla

Manchester United's European ambitions ended in heartbreak last night as they capitulated against Europa League masters Sevilla in their quarter-final second leg, losing 3-0 to crash out 5-2 on aggregate.

It was a woeful performance by the Red Devils, although it was always going to be a tough ask when they were missing Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes, while Marcus Rashford was only given the second half to try and make things happen.

It only took eight minutes for the home side to score, as Harry Maguire was reckless in possession following a poor back pass by David De Gea and Youssef En-Nesyri pounced upon the loose ball and scored the opener.

Two more goals in the second half condemned United to defeat and Maguire couldn’t quite recover from his mistake, losing possession nine times throughout and making only one tackle in the game and with a Sofascore rating of 6.3/10, he was the second-worst player on the pitch.

Despite his performance, it was Marcel Sabitzer who really struggled to impose himself in the tie, with Erik ten Hag deploying him in an attacking midfield slot in place of Fernandes, yet he was almost non-existent.

How did Marcel Sabitzer perform for Manchester United vs Sevilla?

The Dutchman would have expected big things from the on-loan midfielder, especially with his two-goal salvo in the first leg, yet he couldn’t get out of first gear and struggled throughout his 68 minutes on the pitch.

With a rating of 6.1/10, he ranked as the worst United outfield player and judging by his performance and the statistics to go with it, it’s easy to see why.

The Austrian completed just 11 passes last night and from a position where he was expected to make things happen, this is absolutely woeful. He managed only 26 touches during the match also while failing to register a single shot or dribble attempt as his attacking output was extremely limited.

Defensively, Sabitzer committed four fouls, lost possession ten times, was dribbled past once and won just four duels, proving that even when tasked with helping out when United were on the back foot, he failed to provide any sort of meaningful support.

Marcel Sabitzer for Man United

The team as a whole were majorly disappointing, yet the 29-year-old had the chance to showcase his abilities to Ten Hag from an attacking position but failed to live up to expectations and this arguably cost the Old Trafford side a place in the semi-finals.

After that display, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him named on the bench for the tie against Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham: Kompany Tells Staff Whether He Is Joining Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur manager target Vincent Kompany has apparently made a promise to his Burnley staff as chairman Daniel Levy eyes a move.

What's the latest on Kompany to Spurs?

The Belgian has been one of the success stories of this Championship season, with his Clarets side sealing promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

On Tuesday night, Burnley put the cherry on top of what has been a phenomenal campaign – sealing their status as second tier champions after an away win against Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Kompany has apparently impressed Spurs chiefs enough to make his way on to Levy's managerial shortlist, joining the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Arne Slot and Ange Postecoglou as names under consideration in north London.

Fabrizio Romano recently backed Tottenham's interest in the Man City legend who Pep Guardiola even tipped to one day take the Etihad hot seat after his departure.

Burnley managerVincentKompany

Kompany's stock as a manager has well and truly risen after a head-turning 2022/2023 season, with London rivals Chelsea even once considering him to replace Graham Potter.

However, according to a recent report by The Sun, Spurs may have been thwarted in their attempts to land Kompany – who they bill as Levy's 'top target'.

Indeed, as per their information, the former Anderlecht boss has apparently told staff members he is remaining at Turf Moor. Burnley chiefs have also promised to back their manager in the transfer market, despite a recent embargo.

As of now, Ryan Mason has been placed in temporary charge of Spurs until the end of the season, coming after Levy relieved former interim boss Cristian Stellini of his duties in the wake of Tottenham's 6-1 defeat away to Newcastle.

Which manager should Spurs push for?

In light of this claim, it appears Tottenham may have to make a serious attempt to persuade Nagelsmann into joining, with reports suggesting Levy is set to do just that.

Potentially missing out on Kompany could be a bitter one to take for Spurs supporters considering he is arguably one of Europe's most exciting young managers right now – having been called 'incredible' by Guardiola.

Another good alternative to Kompany could be Slot, who has excelled at Feyenoord this season whilst being praised for his 'ultra-attacking' managerial style.

The 44-year-old would also apparently be keen to manage Tottenham, so that is perhaps something Levy should explore.
