‘Excellent work’, ‘Brilliant’ – West Ham fans gush over new signing

Manuel Pellegrini has completed his first transfer as West Ham manager as Ryan Fredericks joined on a free transfer.

The right-back, who secured promotion to the Premier League with Fulham and was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year, has signed the Hammers on a four-year-deal.

The move has long-been expected after Fredericks turned down a contract extension in January when the clubs refused his demands.

West Ham announced the signing by posting a video on Twitter highlighting the player’s pace, showing footage of him as a youngster on an athletics track romping home to victory in a 100m race.

Fredericks, 25, will officially join West Ham on July 1 and told whufc.com: “It’s amazing for this deal to finally happen.

“Obviously, it’s an exciting time for West Ham. The club have just brought in a new manager in Manuel Pellegrini and everyone knows his CV and what he has done in England before and in other leagues as well. I’m sure I can learn a lot from him. “

Hammers fans have been reacting to the announcement on Twitter and they have been effusive in their praise for the new signing.

Unai Emery would be making first Arsenal mistake if he signs Miguel Layun

According to Spanish media outlet AS, Arsenal are one of three clubs interested in signing FC Porto star Miguel Layun if he doesn’t sign a permanent deal with Sevilla following a loan spell last season.

What’s the word, then?

Well, AS report that Gunners boss Unai Emery, as well as AC Milan and Marseille, are ready to pounce for the versatile 29-year-old, who impressed for Mexico in their 1-0 World Cup win against the holders Germany last weekend.

The 5ft 10in tall star, who played in an attacking role in that match and humiliated defender Mats Hummels among others, but can also play as a full-back and defensive midfielder, would have caught the eye of a number of clubs with his impressive display.

If he did arrive at the Emirates Stadium, he would likely be competing with the likes of Alex Iwobi, Hector Bellerin, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Granit Xhaka for a spot in the starting XI.

How did Layun do last season?

After a difficult first-half of the campaign with Porto, the former Watford man was a regular in the Sevilla side – mainly at right-back – as he made 18 appearances in all competitions for them, scoring two goals.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”257647″ player=”12034″ title=”3 Reasons We Love To Hate… Brazil and Argentina”]

Why would he be a bad Arsenal signing?

While Layun was hugely impressive against Germany in the World Cup and could prove to be something of a bargain buy this summer, the Gunners should be looking to add players that are better than what they already have this summer, and it would be hard to argue that the 29-year-old is.

He would be third-choice right-back behind Bellerin and Lichtsteiner, and it would be hard to see him getting regular minutes in midfield, especially with talented youngsters like Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson already waiting in the wings behind the north London outfit’s senior players.

If Emery, whom Arsenal fans have demanded sign a £67.5m attacker following his latest World Cup display, did bring the Mexican to the Emirates, he would be making his first error since he took charge.

‘Announce his new contract and the captaincy’ – Arsenal fans beg for agreement after club post

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have all been saying exactly the same thing in response to their club’s Twitter post. The club tweeted two pictures of Aaron Ramsey of his first and most recent headshots in his time at the club, and the fans all believe that it’s a sign that he’ll be getting a new contract soon.

Ramsey has slowly made his way to being one of Arsenal’s most important players. The midfielder can be deployed in a number of positions but is most potent when roaming and finding space from central midfield behind the likes of Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. His runs from deep are what you’d expect from Paul Pogba in his Juventus days and when he’s on his game he is unplayable.

The fans understand the importance that he has to the current squad and Unai Emery would be doing himself a massive favour in winning the fans over by making Aaron Ramsey’s contract extension a priority. The 27-year-old has been at Arsenal for a whopping ten years now and with his contract set to expire next summer, everyone associated with the club will want to see a new deal for Welshman on the table as soon as possible.

You can read our local Gunners’ verdict on their club’s tweet here:

Arsenal fans everywhere will be delighted when Ramsey signs a new deal with the club, his performances over the last few years for both Arsenal and Wales have put him on the map as of the best players in the Premier League in his position and he’ll be keen to remain at Arsenal for longer.

West Ham fans react to big Jordan Lukaku development

Lazio announced on Friday they had completed the signing of left-back Riza Durmisi which could in turn push through the exit of reported West Ham United target Jordan Lukaku, and Irons fans have been quick to react to the news.[ad_pod ]Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sera, via Lazio News, report that the east London clubs are in talks with the Serie A giants over a double swoop for Felipe Anderson and Lukaku, who would provide competition for the likes of Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell in the left-back/left wing-back role at the London Stadium. However, their Premier League rivals Leicester City are also said to be keen on Romelu’s 23-year-old brother, and it will be interesting to see if he does end up in the English top flight, or not.[brid autoplay=”true” video=”257647″ player=”12034″ title=”Three reasons we love to hate… Brazil and Argentina”]West Ham supporters, who are split on signing a 26-year-old World Cup ace following his latest display, have taken to social media to give their thoughts on the latest Lukaku development, and while one said “it would make sense to think Lukaku is on his way”, another said “Lukaku is just a poor Masuaku”.Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Revealed: Over half of West Ham fans want a summer swoop for Origi

West Ham fans are split over a move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who could leave Liverpool in search of regular playing time.

According to The Liverpool Echo, this pre-season is judgement time for Origi, who needs to impress Jürgen Klopp after a fairly average loan spell with Wolfsburg.

Roberto Firmino will return late from the World Cup, giving the Belgian striker a chance to shine, but the presence of Ben Woodburn, Dominic Solanke and Harry Wilson means the pressure is on to keep his Anfield career alive.

Danny Ings has also been linked with moves away from Liverpool, as the ex-Burnley man searches for regular playing time, but it’s Origi that West Ham fans are eyeing up.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”255896″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Tottenham’s opening fixtures for the 201819 Premier League season”]

The 23 year-old has incredible pace and power, but he is extremely low on confidence, and there is a real feeling this is his last chance on Merseyside.

The young Belgian, who can also play on the wing, hit an electric run of form at Anfield in 2016, but has never quite got up to speed after an ankle injury he suffered against Everton.

Despite plenty of confidence from Hammers fans in Javier Hernandez, the Mexican striker is not yet nailed on at the London Stadium, so having both Chicharito and Origi would certainly give Manuel Pellegrini some different options up front.

You can find the poll results below, where 55 per cent of fans said they should make a summer swoop for Origi…

West Ham can now afford to let Hernández leave

According to Starsport, via The Star, West Ham striker Javier Hernández expects to be gone come the end of the week.

The Mexican has been rumoured to be returning to La Liga, with Valencia looking like the leading contenders to get his signature.

The 30-year-old has made just seven Premier League starts this season, managing four goals in the process, but has not been a favourite of Manuel Pellegrini’s at the London Stadium. Indeed, he has not bee a favourite during his entire spell in east London since joining from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

This would have been a deal that would have filled many West Ham fans with trepidation over two weeks ago, as the club were in a precarious position. With star man Marko Arnautović’s future in doubt throughout January, The Hammers could have been in a situation whereby they lost both of their leading strikers.

However, with the news that the Austrian has signed a contract extension, putting to bed fears of him leaving this January, there will be slightly less pressure on The Irons to keep hold of the Mexican.

With Andy Carroll and Lucas Pérez still at the club, Pellegrini can let Hernández leave the club this week, knowing that Arnautović will still be his main man. This allows the former Man United and Real Madrid striker to ply his trade elsewhere and try and get more game time this season.

What was once unimaginable at the beginning of the month has now become a departure that West Ham can live with.

Fantasy Football Weekly: Spurs and Liverpool stars in our differential picks

Yesterday we looked at the Fantasy Premier League bandwagons and whether you should buy or sell that player. Now, we are keen to find someone who isn’t currently a popular choice, or as the FPL world calls them, the differentials.

There are few reasons why bringing in a ‘hipster’ choice will reap you rewards. One is, of course, if they are successful they will accumulate you points that nobody else will have. And secondly, you could find your team value increasing because you brought in a player before their price rose due to flurry of managers trying to jump on the bandwagon.

With the big news that Bournemouth star Callum Wilson has picked up a long-term injury, many managers are looking for a differential replacement to the 5.8 priced attacker, while the sudden drop of Joseph Gomez to the Liverpool bench has also caused concern in many back-lines.

Will you go for a mainstream option? Or possibly make a calculated bet and bring in one of the three differential options we are presenting to you.

Here are THREE fantasy football differentials ahead of game week eight…

Eric Lamela

Wow we must be crazy to urge you to sign Erik Lamela (6.8) after his last few seasons, but if you’re going on recent form the Argentina international is almost at the top of his game right now.

Lamela scored one and assisted another in their massive 4-1 victory over Manchester City, but it’s not just a flash in the pan, because he was impressive in their win over Sunderland and also scored in the Europa League on Thursday.

Owned by just 1.1% of managers, can this season finally be the break-out campaign for Spurs’ record-breaking signing?

Daniel Sturridge

If Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants to save his job, he will need Daniel Sturridge to perform in the next few games… which could benefit those brave enough to bring in the 10.5 priced striker into their Fantasy Teams.

Sturridge already put two goals against Aston Villa last weekend, but although the fixture list is not that kind for the Reds with Everton (Away), Spurs (Away), Southampton (Home), and Chelsea (Away) in the next four, the England international is undoubtedly their best goalscorer and could be fixture-proof.

If he gets a few goals in this run, he won’t be owned by just 3.8% and he’s definitely going to be much costlier by gameweek 14.

Mame Biram Diouf

Stoke finally got their first win of the season last weekend against Bournemouth, and it was a slightly injured Mame Biram Diouf (6.5) that won the game coming off the bench.

The Potters striker already has three goals in six games this season, and with fixtures on his side [Aston Villa (Away), Swansea (Away), Watford (Home), and Newcastle (Away)], Diouf has plenty more opportunities to continue his run before the games become tougher for the Potters.

With the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Bojan Krkic playing around him, the 2.6% owned Senegal international will definitely get chances and we are backing him to score against Villa (who conceded 9 goals the last 4 games) this weekend.

Arsenal star confirms intention to stay despite exit links

Joel Campbell has claimed that he never wanted to leave Arsenal over the summer despite suggestions from his manager that he was eyeing a move and has reiterated his commitment to the club.

The Costa Rican was heavily linked with a permanent transfer away from the Emirates Stadium during the last window following a series of loan switches.

Arsene Wenger recently shed some light on his attacker’s status during the summer by suggesting that he did in fact want to leave.

However, Campbell is currently firmly back in the Gunners fold, with injuries having led to starts in the club’s last two Premier League games against Swansea and Spurs – he netted ion the 3-0 win in South Wales.

And speaking to IBTimes, the 23-year-old has claimed that a move was not on his agenda despite the speculation, with staying at Arsenal for the long-term his aim:

“No (I didn’t want to move). I’m here at Arsenal, I am very happy. I keep fighting for my dream and I think I still have a long-term future here.”

“Obviously a player always wants to play but in a team which has so many quality players like Arsenal, you need to be patient and taking the chance when it arrives.”

Campbell went on to reveal that he is doing all he can to convince Wenger to keep him in his XI even when the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain return to fitness:

“I try to do my best and then the manager will decide who plays. I am trying to take the opportunity but then the manager has to assess how I’m doing,

“I’m happy [for having played again against Tottenham] but we wanted to win. I’m still working and trying to seize the opportunities that the boss is giving me. Every opportunity is invaluable to me and I am trying to give my best.”

Spurs vs West Ham: The prodigal Son returns

Rounding off the Premier League’s weekend action, Tottenham Hotspur play hosts to London rivals West Ham at 4pm this afternoon.

This fixture always throws up a feisty contest in typical London derby style but there’s even more at stake this year with just one position separating the clubs in the Premier League table.

It looks set to be a classic encounter and the confirmed starting Xis came out around half an hour ago, the biggest talking point being Heung-Min Son’s return to the Spurs line-up in the absence of Erik Lamela – who is both injured and suspended for today’s clash at White Hart Lane.

The South Korea international joined the Tottenham Hotspur ranks this summer, at a cost of £22million, after claiming 21 goals in 62 Bundesliga appearances during two seasons at Bayer Leverkusen.

His Lilywhites career has got off to a decent start, with three goals and one assist from his first seven appearances, but the 23-year-old hasn’t started a match since Spurs’ 4-1 win over Manchester City in September due to a foot injury.

Needless to say, Spurs, West Ham and Premier League fans in general all had their opinions on Son’s return to the starting Xi and duly expressed them on Twitter. Here are some of the best reactions:

Five January transfer targets to boost West Ham’s top six hopes

An injury crisis in East London over recent months has put somewhat of a dampener on the electric form West Ham had shown during the opening stages of the season.

New boss Slaven Bilic had sculpted a wonderfully exciting side containing the likes of Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini, claiming famous wins at the homes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, a swathe of injuries to the aforementioned players, as well as Andy Carroll, Winston Reid, Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho have slightly the breaks on the rampant Hammers. The recent 0-0 stalemate with Swansea was their third successive bore draw.

While still in contention for a place in the top six, such talk has naturally stalled for now in the wake of such a series of blows. London rivals Crystal Palace are currently parked in the position, though it’s extremely difficult to rule the Irons out once their star performers return to first-team action.

Perhaps some intervention in the January market can help supplement the squad going forward, to help provide some strength and depth to the ranks in an effort to land European football.

With that in mind, here are FIVE January transfers to boost West Ham’s top six hopes…

KEVIN MIRALLAS – (EVERTON)

Belgian winger Kevin Mirallas is reportedly looking to leave Everton this winter in an effort to secure first-team football ahead of Euro 2016. The former Olympiakos man has been one of the star performers on Merseyside over recent seasons, but has lost his place in Roberto Martinez’s young side of late.

Though Victor Moses has been excellent, the Nigerian winger is not a long term option. He signed a four-year deal with Chelsea before moving across London on a temporary basis earlier this summer.

Perhaps moving for Mirallas would be a wise idea. He’s an incisive wide forward, able to get chalk on his boots or cut inside and support the likes of Sakho or Carroll. The 28-year old has a wealth of experience in the top flight and remains a class performer.

He would help round out the squad moving forward while adding a more natural wide option than Payet or Lanzini, as well as cover in a more central attacking position.

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR – (FREE)

Emmanuel Adebayor has been linked with a move to Upton Park for what seems to be forever, though reports emerged recently that a deal is once again under discussion.

Premier League fans are well aware of the obvious qualities the 31-year old brings to any side, as well as the obvious negatives. However, with both Carroll and Sakho often the subject of injuries, as well as Enner Valencia’s bad luck on that front, the striking burden has fallen to Nikica Jelavic in recent times.

While the Croat forward works tirelessly, it’s clear he is not up to the required standard. A six-month deal for the former Spurs man may be a good idea, as Carroll continues to frustrate on the injury front.

KEISUKE HONDA – (AC MILAN)

Dimitri Payet has been truly marvellous in claret and blue this term and it’s been fantastic to watch how he schemes with Manuel Lanzini and the like. So, why stop there? AC Milan midfielder is the latest big name to be linked with a move to East London.

The 29-year old Japanese attacking midfielder is a silky assist machine, able to be deployed either behind the striker or a wide option. Payet’s energy in winning the ball back and dropping deeper would afford Bilic the chance to field a plethora of attacking stars in the likes of Honda and Lanzini for maximum creativity, without sacrificing too much in the way of defensive diligence.

More and more in the Premier League we are seeing teams deploy a liquid, free flowing frontline rather than the traditional striker. Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Stoke have all used it to good effect this term and the addition of the AC Milan star would help the Hammers replicate such a tactic.

SIMONE ZAZA – (JUVENTUS)

While the aforementioned Adebayor provides a short-term fix, firming up reported interest in Juventus forward Simone Zaza is certainly the opposite of that. While the apparent £21m asking fee is pricey, the Italian international would be a fantastic signing.

Recent struggles in front of goal have no doubt largely come as a result of the unfortunate injuries, though the striking department has room for improvement. Jelavic isn’t good enough, despite his work-rate, and Andy Carroll has struggled to put a good run of games together in a few seasons now.

Zaza would be another cosmopolitan addition at Upton Park, heading into their move to the Olympic Stadium. Though he’s struggled to break the first team in Turin, the 24-year old has technical skill to be marvelled while also retaining the ability to lead the line.

ROLANDO MANDRAGORA – (GENOA)

Genoa’s young midfield star Rolando Mandragora has recently been touted as a potential target heading into the New Year. The 18-year old has impressed on loan at Pescara this term, making 12 appearances as a classy defensive midfielder.

While the Hammers currently have young prodigy Reece Oxford as a hugely exciting prospect in that role, landing the Italian Under-21 star would be a huge statement of intent. Too much pressure can’t be placed on the shoulders of these young stars, but sharing the burden can help both grow at a fine footballing club like West Ham.
