Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to a Dutch journalist on talkSPORT.

Marcel van der Kraan, of De Telegraaf, believes that the Netherlands international, who has won five caps for his country, is keen on a move to England, with a move to either Spurs or Manchester United mooted in this transfer window.

Van de Beek has enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2018/19, scoring 17 goals and laying on 13 assists throughout a season in which the club reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, beating Real Madrid and Juventus in the process, and won the Eredivisie.

But would he fit in under manager Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs as the club look to build on their run to the final of Europe’s premier club competition, where they lost to Liverpool, and their top-four finish in the Premier League?

“I think van de Beek would be an excellent replacement for Christian Eriksen, assuming the Dane leaves, and may actually bring a better balance to the side than Eriksen. While the current Spurs man is an excellent playmaker, shoehorning he, Alli, Kane, Lucas and Son into the side sacrifices defensive solidity. Van de Beek will hold more defensive responsibility but still get forward and pitch in with goals and assists. He is the perfect midfield partner for Winks & Sissoko.”

“Absolutely. If Spurs were able to sign Van De Beek then it would be a superb addition. The Dutchman could become one of the most highly touted additions this summer and if the north London club are able to bring him in it would add an extra layer to the Spurs midfield. At the moment they don’t have too many central midfielders capable of bringing the ball forward and actually finding themselves involved in goals. Signing Van de Beek, however, would put this to bed.”

“Van de Beek is a special, unique player who every top team needs in their side. He is a gel player, someone who can link everything together in vital areas, which would do Tottenham nicely given their attacking players such as Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dele Alli, who can look lost together at times. This would put the icing on Pochettino’s cake.”

According to The Mirror, Arsenal are considering making a big-money move for St Etienne’s highly-rated centre-back William Saliba this summer.

What’s the word?

The Mirror claim that amidst a summer of a change at the Emirates, club captain and stalwart Laurent Koscielny could be on his way out of the Emirates with Borussia Dortmund interested in stepping up their efforts to sign the Frenchman.

With the veteran defender seemingly on his way out the report adds the Gunners will prepare a bid in the region of £27m for Saliba as a long-term replacement for Koscielny, and are leading Manchester United in the race to sign him.

A much-needed commanding presence

New manager, same flaws. When Arsene Wenger departed last summer after 22 years in charge and Unai Emery was brought in, the one thing Arsenal fans were probably expecting from their first season under their new boss was defensive solidity.

Instead they conceded 51 goals in the Premier League; a staggering 28 and 29 more than Manchester City and Liverpool respectively. Some of the Gunners’ poor record could be put down to a number of factors including injuries, but the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Koscielny barely helped the cause either.

Koscielny to his credit had come off the back of a long-term injury, but his performance in the Europa League final against Chelsea was that of someone who had virtually run his course. William Saliba on the other hand is at the start of his career and part of a St Etienne defence that conceded just 41 and finished in fourth in Ligue 1.

The prodigious youngster averaged two tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game; double the number of tackles made by his French compatriot Koscielny, and significantly better than Mustafi too. Perhaps slightly more intangible however is Saliba’s sheer presence and aura. At 6 ft 4, the France U19 international is an imposing figure and according to Arsenal ‘Invincible’ Lauren, he has all the tools to be a major success.

He said (via the Daily Mirror): “Strong, tall,  he reads the game very well, which is important for a player at the back and he looks very good at just 18, so the future is bright!”

With Arsenal’s defensive struggles well-known, an 18-year-old centre-half from the French league could miraculously be the saviour they desperately need.

وبشأن رحيل حسام حسن للزمالك بعد ضم مصطفى فتحي؟، أوضح: “عماد عبد العزيز رئيس الزمالك الحالي شخصية عظيمة جدًا وأعرفه من سنوات طويلة، والأمور مفتوحة وكل شيء قابل للتفاوض والذي فيه مصلحة سنقوم به”.

وأردف: “كان هناك كلام على حسام حسن من الزمالك وكل أندية القمة ونادي إماراتي كبير، ولكن المفاوضات لم تصل لمراحل جادة وكل شيء وارد”.

وحول انتقال صلاح محسن لاعب الأهلي إلى سموحة؟، أجاب: “نتمنى ضمه ولكن هذا ليس قراري ولكنه قرار اللاعب والأهلي”.

واختتم: “أما عن كريم بامبو، نسير خلف اللاعب منذ 8 سنوات، وإذا الزمالك واللاعب يريدان نادي سموحة، فبامبو سيبدع معنا وسيكون أمامه فرصة هائلة”.

Aston Villa return to the Premier League this season hoping to put on a show and firmly cement their place back among English football’s elite.

Dean Smith did a grand job of leading the Villans back to the big time with a play-off final win over Derby County, and now, backed by rich owners and Premier League money, Smith will be hoping to bring in some quality to ensure his team stay up.

This weekend then has seen the club linked with a move for Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu, and here in the Tavern, we think this would be one of the shrewdest moves Villa could make this summer.

Ampadu has had his fair share of game time for the Blues and has impressed when given the chance, but despite being a regular in the Welsh squad, there has to be an element to consider where it might be time for Ampadu to get some regular first-team football as he looks to develop.

Villa will be looking for players who can slot in across various positions too as Smith looks to maximise the potential of signings he makes, and Ampadu fits right into that mould being comfortable both in the middle of the park and in defence.

Ampadu is highly thought of for a reason at Stamford Bridge, and while he will eventually become a star for Chelsea, a season with a club that holds the stature of Villa could be the perfect move all around.

The youngster is one of those players who is calm on the ball beyond his years, and with a season under his belt of regular football in the system Smith likes to employ, it could well set him up nicely to make a place in the Chelsea XI his own in the coming years.

The pain of losing Rafa Benitez will sting for a long time, but the Magpies need to regroup, recover and get a new man in. That man, though, should absolutely not be the failed Colorado Rapids and ex-Newport County manager Anthony Hudson, here’s why.

For a start, just read the intro that we’ve given the 38-year-old coach. The English manager has had his fair share of jobs despite his young age, but he just isn’t the calibre for Newcastle United, and for obvious reasons, despite the fact that TEAMtalk have run an exclusive linking him with the St James Park job.

The CV that Mike Ashley will be presented with Hudson will be incredibly slim compared to that of Rafa Benitez. One thing that the ex-Colorado Rapids gaffer does have that Rafa never did, though, is a history in international management, albeit with Bahrain and New Zealand.

We’ve seen it before where managers with zero lack of experience in the Premier League have come in and flopped hard. The list is almost endless with the likes of Bob Bradley, Remi Garde, Frank De Boer and even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his initial spell with Cardiff City all falling to sorry ends in the top flight.

Hudson will have to prove to be very different if he’s to avoid a similar fate, but the chances are he just doesn’t have it in his locker to do that. He wouldn’t be the first awful Newcastle boss either, with both John Carver and Alan Pardew leading the way as the infamous awful bosses in the Northeast.

We just can’t see why anyone would look to Hudson for a job as big as Newcastle. It can’t just be us at the Transfer Tavern who knew very little about the 38-year-old before these links and after a little bit of digging and discovering his past jobs and 29% win ratio in management, we’re even less convinced by him.

Regardless, this is Mike Ashley’s circus and despite everyone out there telling him he’s doing it wrong, the sportswear tycoon continues to play by his own rules, which is obvious given his treatment of Benitez. When considering that, it would come as little shock to see him appointed, although at any club you’d be wondering what’s going through the head of the man in charge.

Celtic fans are excited about the prospect of signing Christopher Jullien during this summer’s transfer window.

The Daily Record reported on Tuesday that a fee has been agreed between the two clubs for the 26-year-old defender, with Neil Lennon later confirming that a deal is close for his signature.

The 6ft 5in centre-back fills a problem position for the Hoops after the departures of Belgian international Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic, and his colossal size has also drawn comparisons from fans to former star Virgil van Dijk.

وبسؤاله، هل حدث وأن تعاقد بيراميدز مع لاعبين بعيدين عن وجهة نظرك الشخصية، أجاب تشاتيتش: “اللاعبون الجدد لم يتحدث معي أحد من الإدارة بشأنهم، كانت هناك جلسات تجمعني بالإدارة لمناقشة ضم لاعبين آخرين غير الذين انضموا للفريق مؤخرا، ولكني أرى أنهم لديهم إمكانيات جيدة ويمكنهم عمل تأثير كبير وتحقيق نتائج إيجابية، والمهم هو الصبر والاستعانة بالخبراء في التعاقد مع اللاعبين”.

وأضاف: “أعتقد أن التعاقد مع شريف إكرامي، حارس عمره 38 عاما، في وجود المهدي سليمان وأحمد الشناوي اللذان يمتلكان إمكانيات جيدة، سيسبب مشكلة في الفريق، المهدي كان حارسًا أساسيًا وعلى مستوى جيد، أنا كنت قد طلبت التعاقد مع لاعب وسط ولكن الإدارة لم تتعاقد مع لاعب في هذا المركز ليصنع الفارق، كنت أحتاج مراكز معينة كانت من الممكن أن تحدث تغييرا في الفريق”.

واختتم: “شريف إكرامي بشكل عام جيد، ولكن ما أتحدث عنه هو أن الفريق لم يكن في حاجة لضم حارس جديد، وانا أتعجب من موقف الإدارة لأن هذا كما ذكرت سيخلق مشكلة داخل الفريق”.

كشفت صحيفة “كوريري ديلو سبورت” الإيطالية عن خطوة جديدة قام بها مهاجم الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي إنتر ميلان، لاوتارو مارتينيز، من أجل التأكيد على رغبته في البقاء مع النيراتزوري.

ويتفاوض لاوتارو في الوقت الحالي مع إنتر ميلان على تمديد العقد الحالي الذي ينتهي في يونيو 2023، ولكن النادي الإيطالي يريد تمديده مع زيادة راتبه لصد محاولات الأندية الخارجية لضمه في المستقبل.

وبحسب الصحيفة الشهيرة، وافق لاوتارو على تخفيض مطالبه المادية بشأن الراتب السنوي من 7 ملايين يورو إلى 5 ملايين يورو وهذا ما كان قد أوقف المفاوضات مع إنتر ميلان في الفترة الماضية.

وبالتالي، من المتوقع أن يوقع الأرجنتيني الدولي على عقده الجديد لعام آخر لينتهي في يونيو 2024 مع الإبقاء على قيمة الشرط الجزائي عند 111 مليون يورو.

الجدير بالذكر أن برشلونة كان أبرز المهتمين بضم لاوتارو في الميركاتو الصيفي الماضي، ولكن الصفقة لم تتم بسبب المشاكل المالية التي يعاني منها العملاق الكتالوني في ظل جائحة فيروس كورونا.
