Southampton were heavily linked with signing Weston McKennie during the summer transfer window and after his bright start to life at Juventus, it looks as if they may have made an error in not signing him.

According to the Daily Express, in July Southampton were leading a five-horse race of Premier League sides interested in signing the USA international but they would ultimately miss out on the midfielder, as he opted to join Juventus instead.

The report from the Express suggests that a deal hinged on whether the Saints could do a deal with Tottenham for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and whilst the defensive-midfielder departed for Spurs, the South Coast side and CEO Martin Semmens were unable to conclude a deal for McKennie.

The former Schalke man has made a solid start to life in Turin, having averaged a strong 6.94 rating across his three appearances in Serie A, in which he has contributed an assist (per WhoScored).

The defensive-midfielder could have been the ideal man to replace Hojbjerg, as WhoScored suggests that his main strengths are defensive contribution, aerial duels, blocking the ball and ball interceptions.

However, the Saints ended up signing Ibrahima Diallo from Stade Brest and he has managed just 18 minutes of Premier League action thus far.

McKennie earned a lot of praise during his time at Schalke, with former coach Domenico Tedesco suggesting:

“Even during those phases when it’s not going so well, he embodies everything that we strive to stand for. He has a good mentality, he’s powerful, down-to-earth and works hard – and he can play as a six, eight or ten. As long as he continues to work hard and keeps his feet on the ground, he’ll only get better. He’s just great!”

He also praised the 22-year-old’s body language, saying:

“The fans love the way he plays, and the work he puts in. His body language is extraordinary. There are players in the team that already measure themselves against him, and let’s not forget that he’s still a raw talent. It’s not like he’s reached his full potential at 20. I’m sure he’ll only get better.” (per Bundesliga.com)

Therefore, it can certainly be argued that Southampton really missed out on McKennie, as at 22, he could have been a staple of Hasenhuttl’s side for a long time and judging by what Tedesco suggested, he is only going to get better.

وأوضح طارق جبريل موقف شيكابالا من المشاركة أمام الأهلي: “لم يصلنا أي قرار رسمي من اتحاد الكرة حتى الآن بشأن مشاركة شيكابالا، كان من المفترض أن يصدر القرار قبل لقاء الأهلي ولكن هذا لم يحدث”.

وانتقل أمين صندوق الزمالك لتوضيح حقيقة تقديم شكوى ضد المخرج محمد نصر: “لم نقدم أي شكوى رسمية ضد محمد نصر، لكننا سجلنا تحفظنا على اختياره بسبب انتمائه”.

وكشف طارق جبريل تفاصيل الجلسة التي جمعت مجلس الإدارة مع لاعبي الزمالك قبل انطلاق المران: “حرصنا على التواجد في التدريبات وعقد جلسة مع اللاعبين لحثهم على الفوز بالمباراة، روح اللاعبين عالية ولديهم رغبة كبيرة في الفوز”.

واختتم طارق جبريل تصريحاته بالحديث عن مستقبل اللجنة المكلفة بإدارة الزمالك: “لم نتلقِ أي شئ رسمي بخصوص رحيلنا بعد مباراة القمة، ليس لدينا أي أزمة في تطبيق القانون وتسليم النادي خلال ساعة واحدة من القرار حين يصدر، الزمالك مستمر بنا أو بدوننا”.

Glasgow Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has hardly put a foot wrong since he first arrived at the Ibrox outfit from Premier League side Southampton. Now he has a chance to give a lifelong fan a dream chance to play for Steven Gerrard’s side if recent reports are to be believed.

What’s the story?

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Rangers are considering a shock move for Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean in January.

It’s claimed that Gerrard is closely monitoring the situation as he is well aware that McLean has been in and out of the Canaries first team since they were relegated from the Premier League.

The Ibrox boss is believed to be eyeing a swoop for the Scotland hero in the winter transfer window after he helped Steve Clarke’s side secure their spot for the Euro 2020 Championships next summer by scoring his penalties in the play-off shootout victories over both Israel and Serbia.

Rangers are reportedly lining up either a deal to be paid in instalments or an initial loan deal with the option to buy in the summer. However, McLean signed a new contract with the Canaries only a couple of months ago, which ties him down at Carrow Road until 2023.

Wilson’s time to shine

This is Wilson’s time to shine as he notoriously drives a hard bargain, having developed a reputation for being the key figure in the club’s recruitment during his time at St Mary’s. He oversaw the arrival of former Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk before selling him to Liverpool for a huge profit.

McLean has scored one goal in eight games in the Championship so far this season, despite the fact he has only started four of those games. The Scottish international may decide a change of scenery is in his best interests with the Euros just around the corner.

With the 28-year-old potentially looking to leave Carrow Road and with Norwich feeling the impact as a result of these unprecedented circumstances, the Canaries may have to cash in on the Scotsman sooner rather than later.

McLean, whose market value is estimated at £2.88m via Transfermarkt, has made 72 appearances for Norwich, scoring five goals and supplying eight assists in all competitions so far.

Once hailed as an “irreplaceable” dynamo by Norwich boss Daniel Farke, the former Aberdeen and St Mirren man should be able to hit the ground running. He also has experience of playing in the Europa League qualifying rounds, which is surely an added bonus.

The centre-midfielder, who can also be deployed as an attacking midfielder or out wide, could be the perfect deputy for Rangers star Joe Aribo, who himself has become a versatile option under Gerrard, having replaced Ianis Hagi on the right-wing in recent weeks before the international break.

However, the Gers are hardly short of options in the midfield, as Gerrard can call upon the likes of Steven Davis, Bongani Zungu, Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield as well. However, Arfield isn’t getting any younger, whilst it remains to be seen if Davis will be offered a new deal or not, as his current contract will run out in 2021.

Wilson may feel that he will be able to negotiate a cut-price deal with the Canaries for McLean in the coming months as the Euros loom ever nearer, with the Scotsman keen to add to his 16 caps for his country so far.

West Ham United may be about to pay the price for Manuel Pellegrini’s calamitous decision to sign Sebastien Haller in a club-record deal, with David Moyes potentially open to selling the striker in January.

What’s the word?

According to ExWHUemployee, while speaking on the West Ham Way Podcast, there is a chance Moyes will listen to offers for Haller in the upcoming transfer market as the Scottish coach “isn’t convinced” by his potential.

Moyes may be forced into handing the 26-year-old his fourth start of the Premier League season when the Scot welcomes his former employer Manchester United to the London Stadium on Saturday, with Michail Antonio questionable after being replaced 45-minutes into his return from a hamstring injury.

But Moyes does not rate Haller highly, and may inform the Irons hierarchy that he would be comfortable with the east London side entertaining offers for the attacker Pellegrini brought to the club for £45million in 2019.

Haller struck his second goal of the league campaign in fine fashion to seal all three points for the Hammers at Sheffield United last month before falling to the bench against Aston Villa, while netting seven in 32 top-flight appearances during his maiden campaign.

Previous speculation has suggested Moyes favours Antonio over Haller purely through the English centre-forward’s relentless desire and high work rate to occupy the sole centre-forward position, while the former Everton head coach has also called for the Ivory Coast international to offer more.

Speaking on Haller and Felipe Anderson following West Ham’s Carabao Cup win over Charlton Athletic in September, via quotes by the Evening Standard, Moyes said: “I’ve got to say the two of them are great to work with, the two of them are really good lads – I like them a lot. Felipe is a terrific lad, so is Seb. But what I want them to be is terrific players every time they play, and I want them to make a difference.

“I think Seb, a 6 ft 4 centre-forward and you’re leading the line, I think you are expecting much more of that. Maybe Seb isn’t completely that type. We are still finding out exactly what Seb’s attributes are in that case.”

A costly blunder by Sullivan and Pellegrini

Should West Ham indeed listen to offers for Haller in January like ExWHUemployee has suggested could be the case, the decision would mark one mighty and expensive blunder by co-owner and Chairman David Sullivan, along with Pellegrini.

Since signing Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt for a club-record £45m in July 2019, the Irons have seen the striker’s TransferMarkt valuation drop to just £27m.

Add in the forward’s £115,385-per-week contract over the 72 weeks since his arrival, and West Ham would stand to lose £26.3m should they only receive offers matching Haller’s current TransferMarkt valuation.

West Ham’s decision to sign Haller can be deemed a failure in other ways, too, with the two-time Ivory Coast international so far costing the club £1.15m per appearance after 46 games or £4.1m per goal after 13 strikes in claret and blue across all competitions.

With his output reflecting those figures, Sullivan will surely urge Moyes to persist with handing Haller opportunities to impress rather than cashing in at one almighty loss come January.

– Mesmo sem vencer o Primavera nesses dois jogos, nós conseguimos jogar bem. Demos muito sufoco a eles também. Ganhar a disputa de pênaltis não surpreendeu porque esse tipo de treinamento é normal no nosso dia a dia – explicou Gabriel.
