Southampton lost pace in the race for the top four spots in the Premier League as they were beaten 2-0 by Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday night.

The Saints rarely looked like scoring against Brendan Rodgers’ side as they missed Danny Ings up front, but it was perhaps the performance of Kyle Walker-Peters that will have disappointed Ralph Hasenhuttl the most.

The right-back has been superb for the South Coast club since joining on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur during the summer, averaging a solid 7.03 rating for his performances in the Premier League.

For his performance at Leicester, however, the 23-year-old would earn a disappointing 6.44 rating, which was his third-worst rating of the season so far, emphasising that he was nowhere near his best against the Foxes.

During the 90 minutes, the former Spurs man won just eight of his 15 duels, resulting in an overall success rate of just 53%. This is a sharp decline from his last appearance in the 1-0 win against Liverpool, where he won 11/16 duels.

During the game against Leicester, Walker-Peters struggled from a defensive point of view too, as he made no clearances, no interceptions and just one tackle, compared to the seven clearances, one interception and six tackles he made against Liverpool.

It was also a sloppy performance when you consider the defender’s passing against the Foxes, as he gave away possession on 25 occasions, compared to the 12 times he lost the ball against Liverpool.

The Englishman also completed just 31/46 of his attempted passes, resulting in a less than impressive success rate of 67%, which is some way below his season average of 80.7%, emphasising that this was simply not the defender’s night.

To compile his misery, Walker-Peters’ direct opponent winger, Harvey Barnes, would pick up an 8.05 rating for his display, his best rating in any league game this season, as he got the better of the Saints full-back throughout the game before sealing the three points with a late goal.

It is clear that the Saints defender was nowhere near his best against Leicester on Saturday night, which will surely frustrate Hasenhuttl, as it was a huge opportunity for his side to move back into the top-four spots with a win. Hopefully for Walker-Peters and Southampton, this was just a blip on an otherwise impressive season.

Although Celtic are struggling with  coronavirus issues, Neil Lennon has a lot to look forward to once he and his team are allowed to return to action.

The Hoops have an alarming 14 senior players in self-isolation due after they were deemed to be close contacts to Christopher Jullien, who tested positive. The boss has been forced to join them in quarantine and as a result, he missed his side’s latest Premiership fixture.

Despite the fact Celtic were operating with a skeleton crew on Monday, they were able to avoid total embarrassment and registered a draw against Hibernian, a game they very nearly won too. The man of the hour in that game was, not for the first time, David Turnbull.

Lennon gamble on Turnbull paying off

Many Celtic players are waiting patiently for their chance to break into the first team. However, only those who have caught the boss’ eye have been so lucky. Even veteran Leigh Griffiths finds himself low down in the pecking order these days.

Lennon recently took a chance on 2020 summer signing David Turnbull after his other midfield options failed to impress. The former Motherwell man made his first Celtic start against St Johnstone in the league and has gone on to contribute to five goals in nine appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

Turnbull was the difference for the Hoops last time out, scoring a late goal in the 82nd minute to  put his side into the lead. Unfortunately, Kevin Nisbet’s injury time strike meant Celtic had to settle for a draw.

On the back to that goal, In his last eight appearances under Lennon, Turnbull has gone just two games without contributing to a goal.

Sofascore reports that he averages a goal every 211 minutes, which is more than creative teammate and full Scotland international Ryan Christie.

Turnbull has produced the goods during Celtic’s hour of need and that simply mustn’t be overlooked. The £1.6million-rated midfielder has completely transformed Lennon’s engine room and must now be one of the first names on Lennon’s team-sheet every match, even when those 14 players return from quarantine

His portfolio of six goals so far is more than any other Celtic midfielder, which only highlights how crucial he is to this Glaswegian side.

Lennon has already admitted that he is in awe of Turnbull’s “excellent form” and provided he is continuously given chances, he will almost certainly continue to thrive.

The manager simply must continue to select him for as long as he remains fit as he is the man to provide the much-needed goals from midfield.

Cast your mind back to the summer transfer window and you will remember an enthralling few months for Leeds.

Having just gained promotion, Victor Orta spent a club-record fee on Rodrigo from Valencia.

They also sealed the signing of a Germany international in Robin Koch during what was an eye-catching window for Leeds.

They also happened to land Raphinha, a tricky winger who has taken to English football in scintillating style. He has contributed to four goals since signing and looks every bit a Marcelo Bielsa player.

However, they missed out on the chance to sign someone with a very similar name – Rafinha.

Leeds were linked with signing the former Barcelona midfielder in a deal worth just over £14m but a move didn’t materialise and he ultimately signed for PSG.

Though, this has to be one of Orta’s biggest regrets in the summer. Leeds were aiming to sign a midfielder and they very nearly had one in Michael Cuisance. Unfortunately, a move collapsed after the Frenchman failed his medical.

Bizarrely, United didn’t look at alternatives and now they’re paying the price. Kalvin Phillips operated at centre-half versus Crawley and with the England international suspended against Brighton, Pascal Struijk appeared at the base of Bielsa’s midfield.

It’s safe to say this hasn’t paid off. The Dutchman played just 45 minutes in the FA Cup and thus, didn’t win a single ground duel. When they welcomed the Seagulls to Elland Road, Struijk gave the ball away 13 times – the sixth-worst tally on the Leeds side – and completed 80% of his passes.

That tally isn’t too bad but it was still considerably down on his season average of 88%. Of course, the youngster is a centre-back by trade so is playing out of position, but this only emphasises why Orta needed to bring another battling midfielder to Leeds.

Rafinha could have been that man. Talking about the 27-year-old, former Barca defender Andreu Fontas once said: “Rafinha is a great player. Physically, he is a beast and, technically, he is superb.”

That just about sums up what Leeds need in the middle of the park, especially from a physical point of view. He is a machine at regaining possession and putting his team on the front foot.

The Brazil international has completed 30 challenges across Ligue 1 and Champions League action this term – winning 2.5 tackles per game domestically.

For context, that would put him joint-fourth in the Leeds squad alongside Liam Cooper. It’s a figure that’s just 0.4 below Phillips, but 0.5 better than Struijk.

He’s also completed more accurate passes (89.8) than anyone in the Whites’ team barring Kiko Casilla. Having registered three assists on top of that, it goes to prove that he is an all-action midfielder.

Rafinha can tackle, pick the lock of stern defences and regain possession with relative ease. The £72k-per-week earner would have been a wonderful pick up last summer.

Leeds should rue the day they chose not to make a move.

O Museu Pelé, em parceria com a Foot Fame prestará uma homenagem a sete ídolos santistas nesta terça-feira. São eles: Juary, Mengálvio, Coutinho, Pepe, Dorval, Lima e Léo.

Os ex-jogadores do clube serão eternizados na Calçada da Fama do Esporte, na qual deixarão suas pegadas. As marcas ficarão expostas no museu do Rei até serem enviadas para o Castelão e para a Arena Amazônia.

Segundo Ângelo Neto, Diretor Comercial da Foot Fame, o objetivo da homenagem é manter viva a história de quem prestou tantos serviços ao Santos.

– Nossa missão, junto da equipe do Museu Pelé, é preservar tudo o que nossos ídolos fizeram pelo esporte. Eles servirão de exemplo para nossos jovens também se tornarem grandes esportistas e cidadãos – comentou.

O evento está marcado para começar às 12h. O Museu Pelé fica no Largo Marquês de Monte Alegre, s/n, bairro Valongo, Santos (SP).

برشلونة تعرض للهزيمة من بايرن ميونخ بثلاثية دون رد في الجولة السادسة والأخيرة من دور المجموعات، ليودع دوري الأبطال وينتقل للدوري الأوروبي.

بينما ذهب زملائه إلى غرفة خلع الملابس ورؤوسهم منخفضة، بقي لينجليه في أرض ملعب “آليانز آرينا” يمزح مع روبرت ليفاندوفسكي مهاجم بايرن ميونخ.

دردشة ودية وضحك لينجليه مع ليفاندوفسكي تم التقاطه في صورة ظهرت عبر شاشات التلفزيون والتقطها المصورين الذين كانوا حاضرين في الملعب.

ليست هذه هي المرة الأولى التي يقع فيها لاعب في موقف مماثل، في مايو الماضي كان هازارد هو الذي أثار غضب جماهير ريال مدريد بعد أن ضُبط وهو يضحك مع زملائه السابقين في تشيلسي بمجرد إقصائه في نصف نهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا.

كشف نادي ليل المنافس في بطولة الدوري الفرنسي عن موقفه من استعادة لاعبه السابق، إدين هازارد، من ريال مدريد خاصة في ظل معاناته في قلعة “سانتياجو برنابيو”.

لم يظهر هازارد بمستواه المعهود أبدًا مع ريال مدريد منذ انتقاله من صفوف تشيلسي في صيف عام 2019 بمقابل 100 مليون يورو، وأصبح وجوده غير مضمون مع الملكي.

ولعب البلجيكي الدولي مع ليل لمدة 5 سنوات في الفترة من 2007 إلى 2012 قبل الانتقال إلى تشيلسي.

وعلق رئيس نادي ليل، أوليفييه ليتانج، على الأمر في تصريحات لبرنامج “L’Equipe du Soir” الفرنسي، وقال: “ليس من المستحيل رؤيته يعود إلى هنا”.

وتابع: “ربما أذهب إلى إسبانيا إذا لزم الأمر، قد يبدو الأمر مستحيلًا، لأن هازارد لاعب يتمتع بإمكانيات فنية رائعة”.

وأضاف في النهاية: “هازارد في النهاية لاعب في ريال مدريد وعقده مستمر معهم”.

وينتهي عقد هازارد مع ريال مدريد في يونيو 2024، حيث وقع على عقد لمدة 5 سنوات مع الملكي في عام 2019.
