What’s the story?

Reports ahead of the January transfer window suggested that King could still be on Dean Smith’s side’s radar, after it was revealed over the summer that they had put in a bid of around £16m for the Norway international.

But on deadline day, Villa didn’t join the race to sign their long-term target, with the Bournemouth man eventually joining Everton on a cut-price deal.

Smith won’t be happy

Whilst Villa have enjoyed a remarkable Premier League campaign thus far – they find themselves just seven points off the top four but with two games in hand – there are some areas of concern for Smith, most notably in the striking position.

Summer signing Ollie Watkins has been a revelation in his debut campaign for the club, bagging ten goals already, but Villa have already seen first-hand just what can happen when their main man isn’t firing on all cylinders.

In that two-month period where he didn’t score in the Premier League, Villa won just three of their nine top-flight games, and Smith still felt compelled to keep him on during games, even during his most difficult patches – in fact, he hasn’t missed a single minute of top-flight football all season.

In part, that is down to the real lack of other options that Smith has available to him, what with Wesley only just trying to return back to full fitness, and Keinan Davis still incredibly raw – he’s managed just five goals in 75 games for the club.

In the 5 foot 11 King, they would have got someone with plenty of experience in the Premier League (he’s played 161 times in the competition) and a player who could have eased the burden on Watkins, either off the bench or allowing Smith to completely rest his main man.

King would have brought what his previous manager Eddie Howe described as his “unique pace” to the table, and offered the Villa boss a different option up front.

The fact they weren’t able to get him for the second transfer window in a row, means Smith has been left desperately short in the number nine role, and an injury to Watkins could be catastrophic. The manager will be worried about such a scenario, but there isn’t a lot he can do about it now, other than to manage Watkins as best he can.

West Ham United must hand Declan Rice the double-your-money contract thought to have been in the works earlier this season, amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United.

What’s the word?

According to Ian McGarry, while speaking on The Transfer Window podcast, representatives of both the Anfield and Old Trafford outfits have opened talks with Rice’s agent over a potential summer move.

It is thought the Reds and Red Devils have expressed their interest in prising the 22-year-old away from the London Stadium and have requested that they stay informed of any updates regarding his situation.

Chelsea are also noted to no longer be entertaining the idea of signing the England international, as was expected following Frank Lampard’s sacking by the Stamford Bridge natives.

Lampard had been the driving force behind the Blues pursuing the midfielder last summer, but the south-west London side refused to pay West Ham’s £80m valuation with other club figures not as keen to re-sign a player they released as a teenager for such a significant fee.

Rice has since continued to shine with the Hammers as one of the first names on the teamsheet, starting and playing the full 90 minutes in all 24 Premier League fixtures this term.

What can West Ham do?

Moyes made it clear last month that he would not be letting Rice leave the London Stadium no matter who stood in the Chelsea dugout, as it would take an astronomical offer for West Ham to let the academy graduate leave.

“No matter who was the manager at Chelsea, or whoever came in, it would have been the same answer,” the Scot said, via quotes by the Mirror. “I said it right at the start and I’m only repeating myself – Bank of England money would be required, and you might even need to add Bank of Scotland on to that as well because he has been so good.”

Now, it is David Sullivan, Karren Brady and David Gold’s turn to show Rice how much he means to West Ham if they are to keep the midfielder in east London beyond the end of the season amid Liverpool and Manchester United’s approaches to his agent.

It had been reported by The Sun in October that GSB were willing to double Rice’s wage to £120k-per-week following Chelsea’s interest, but he has remained on the same £60k-per-week terms penned in 2018.

Rice was supposed to earn a pay rise to signify his importance to the Hammers and has only established his presence more so in the coming months, with Aaron Cresswell and Tomas Soucek the only West Ham players to have also featured for all 2,160 minutes of Premier League action to date.

The 13-time international also wears the captain’s armband when Mark Noble is not on the field, has long been considered the natural successor to the veteran midfielder and is a player Moyes sees as the future of West Ham.

But that may not come true if Manchester United or Liverpool present offers in the summer that appeal to Rice, who may feel undervalued if GSB are not willing to make him the best-paid player at the London Stadium in line with his status on the pitch.

So, if Gold, Brady and Sullivan want to see Rice in claret and blue and not red next season, they must hand the Moyes favourite a double-your-money deal or accept the consequences.

Lee Johnson won’t want to make too many changes to the side that beat the Brewers so comfortably at the weekend.

However, if he is thinking of making a change, then he must drop one specific player to the bench again. That happens to be Southampton loanee Jake Vokins.

The left-back has had a pretty torrid start to life at the Stadium of Light and to date, his temporary spell has been a difficult one. Roker Report said it was hard to picture many worse Sunderland debuts after the 2-2 draw with MK Dons and he’s looked unconvincing ever since.

The solution

The answer to their woes with Vokins lay at the feet of another loanee; Jordan Jones.

The winger has only played six times and started twice since his move south of the border from Rangers, but he’s caught the eye in his minimal time on the pitch.

He was hailed for his efforts by supporters after his cameo off the bench last time out and as his fitness grows game by game, he could become a force to be reckoned with.

Jones was only on the field for 23 minutes against Burton but managed three key passes – the second-highest number of anyone in a Black Cats jersey. On top of that, he finished the clash with a pass success rate of 100%.

You only need to heed words from Glasgow Live reporter Mark McDougall to understand what he can offer: “In all honesty, he should stroll League One if his attitude is right when he goes down there. He’s two-footed so can go inside or outside and has pace to burn.”

The journalist added: “He can be a joy to watch when he’s on his game because of how direct and tricky he is.”

Johnson has already extracted similar qualities from Aiden McGeady in recent weeks so it’s exciting to see what he could do with Jones.

He needs to be unleashed on Fleetwood, not just because of his individual attributes, but because Vokins is struggling down the left.

Presidente mais vitorioso da história do Grêmio, Fábio Koff, de 84 anos, foi atração na manhã desta sexta-feira, no auditório da Arena, durante o lançamento de sua biografia “Fábio Koff: Memórias e Confidências – O que Faltou Esclarecer”. Imprensa e convidados participaram do evento. Teve até fila de funcionários para abraçar o ex-dirigente tricolor, que opinou sobre o momento do time na Libertadores, mostrando confiança na classificação às oitavas de final.

– O Grêmio está fazendo o papel que se esperava dele. Não vejo um time melhor que o Grêmio na Libertadores. Com os quatro pontos conquistados até agora, eu acho que o Grêmio está fazendo o que fez naquelas Libertadores que conquistou – disse Koff.

Escrito pelo professor Paulo Flávio Ledur e o jornalista Paulo Silvestre Ledur, pai e filho, o livro passou a ser um “desejo” antes de Koff comandar o Grêmio pela terceira vez, entre 2013 e 2014.

– Eu já tinha a ideia de ajudar a escrever (de voltar à presidência). Infelizmente, eu tive um problema de saúde e não consegui fazer o que queria no tempo certo. Pessoas próximas a mim, insistiram em deixar a minha história registrada e publicada – disse Koff.

A obra, que contém 247 páginas, conta com revelações de bastidores e personagens durante sua experiência como dirigente tricolor. Apenas as informações sobre a compra da Arena, iniciada pelo então presidente, ficaram de fora.

– Os fatos mais relativos a minha infância, a minha adolescência e alguns fatos da negociação da Arena, pelo sigilo, ficaram de fora. Durante a negociação nós chegamos ao consenso com o conselho de administração de manter silêncio. Estou tranquilo com essa negociação, sei que está em boas mãos – destacou Koff.

Bem de saúde após ter passado por um 2015 complicado – foram quase três meses internado no Centro de Tratamento Intensivo (CTI) do Hospital Moinhos de Vento com problemas nas vias respiratórias –, o ex-presidente gremista garante que tem acompanhado o Grêmio.

A biografia já está a venda e, na próxima segunda, às 18h, Koff estará na loja Grêmio Mania do Olímpico para uma sessão de autógrafos, com distribuição de até 400 senhas.

Koff, hoje juiz de direito aposentado e também desembargador aposentado, foi presidente do Grêmio em três oportunidades. Entre 1982 e 1984, o Tricolor conquistou a Libertadores e o Mundial de Clubes de 1983. Recuperado de um câncer, ele voltou a comandar o Tricolor entre 1993 e 1997, período em que o clube voltou a conquistar a Libertadores, foi campeão brasileiro e obteve diversos outros títulos. O último período à frente do Grêmio foi entre janeiro de 2013 e janeiro de 2015, mas sem títulos.

واستكمل: “وكنت أريد وقتها الاحتراف الخارجي ولكن الأهلي لم يكن لديه أي علاقة بالأمر”.

واختتم: “لم أجلس مطلقا مع الخطيب الحديث كان مع تركي للاحتراف في السعودية”.
