South Africa and Pakistan will play an extra Twenty20 match in Dubai to raise funds for victims of the floods that have devastated Pakistan over the last month.The match is scheduled to take place before the first Twenty20 between the two sides in Abu Dhabi that kicks off the series of two Tests and five ODIs on October 27. The entire series is being played in Abu Dhabi and Dubai because of ongoing security concerns in Pakistan.”The floods have been a real tragedy and this is our own way of trying to help out the victims in the country,” Gerald Majola, CSA’s chief executive, told Cricinfo. “It will be an extra game, probably two days before the first T20 that starts the series, and all proceeds will go to victims of the floods.”The match is the first tangible result of the PCB’s efforts to raise funds for a natural disaster the UN believes to be among the worst in living memory. Over 1500 deaths have been recorded already and it is estimated nearly 20 million people have been affected after record rainfall in north-western parts of Pakistan. Roughly one-fifth of the country’s landmass stands submerged. Though initially sluggish, aid has begun to flow in, with over US$800 million pledged so far.Other boards have also indicated an interest in helping out. Zimbabwe have already expressed their commitment to tour Pakistan and play in fund-raising games, though details have not been finalised. The West Indies Cricket Board have also offered their assistance, possibly when Pakistan tour the Caribbean next year.”We feel hurt as we have watched on television and followed on the internet, the magnitude of the destruction and devastation caused to the people of Pakistan, by the recent floods,” said Julian Hunte, the West Indies board president. “The WICB and the PCB have had a long and fruitful relationship for many years and we want to assure them than they have our full support in this dark time.”In an effort to see how best we can assist, the WICB will contact the PCB hierarchy to examine how we can work together,” he said. “The Pakistani cricketers are due to visit the West Indies next year for a full tour, under the ICC Future Tours Programme, so this visit will offer an opportunity to assist in a meaningful way.”The PCB is also keen on arranging a game in England during Pakistan’s ongoing tour but nothing concrete has emerged yet. Instead, players from England and Pakistan have contributed their match fees to the cause and the sides are also expected to attend several fund-raising dinners.PCB officials claimed that New Zealand had also offered to visit Pakistan to play a series to help flood victims, but this was swiftly denied by Justin Vaughan, chief executive NZC. Vaughan did express the hope “that cricket could play a part in alleviating some of the suffering that is going on there.” Pakistan are scheduled to tour New Zealand at the end of the year, leaving open the possibility of the two boards arranging a game for the cause.

The Latest: Reds eye up move

According to Sport, the Reds, and by extension club owners FSG, have sounded out Gavi over a summer move as they make an approach – with Barca thought to be concerned over his future at the Camp Nou.

It is also believed that Klopp’s side have ‘intensified their interest’ pending contract renewal talks – stepping up the chase for Barca’s gem as they sense a potential transfer opportunity.

Gavi is described as a ‘real bargain’ by Sport who cite his €50 million (£41m) release clause as a small price to pay for someone of his quality and vast potential.

The Spaniard’s current deal expires at the end of next season, so if he hasn’t extended his stay by then, he would be able to leave on a free transfer, acting as a major blow for them.

The Verdict: Feels highly unlikely

While the idea of Gavi in a Liverpool shirt is hugely exciting, given his ability and potential, it still feels highly likely that he will sign a new deal with Barca eventually.

Like so many La Masia graduates, the midfielder will surely see his long-term future at the club, particularly if they continue their current resurgence under Xavi.

Along with similarly prodigious talent Pedri, Gavi could be the poster boy for the next era at Barca and it is hard to see Liverpool swooping instead, despite their huge appeal under Jurgen Klopp.

West Ham United have identified Burnley’s Nick Pope as a potential goalkeeper target, according to The Daily Mail’s Adrian Kajumba. 

The lowdown

Pope and Burnley are facing relegation to the Championship after winning just four of their first 31 matches. They’re currently 18th, three points behind Everton despite having played a game more.

West Ham, meanwhile, are chasing Europa League glory with the help of Areola, who’s started all but one game on their route to the final.

He’s effectively been the cup ‘keeper at the London Stadium, with 37-year-old veteran Lukasz Fabianski playing league matches.

West Ham will have the option to buy Areola from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his loan spell in the summer for a fee of £10million.

West Ham have shortlisted Pope ‘as they finalise their goalkeeping plans for next season’, Kajumba reports.

The Hammers believe he may be a cheaper alternative to Areola if Burnley are relegated, causing his price tag to plummet.

Areola would be installed as one of West Ham’s highest earners on £120,000 per week, but Pope earns less than a third of that at Burnley (£35,000).

Fulham, who took the Frenchman on loan during the 2020/21 season, are waiting in the wings as they stand on the verge of winning back their place in the Premier League.

The verdict

Pope, Kajumba notes, impressed when the two sides played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

He made five saves, all from shots inside the penalty area, to help his team secure what could prove to be an important point.

His SofaScore rating of 7.5/10 was the second highest in the team, beaten only by goalscorer Wout Weghorst.

The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas suspects that West Ham would have won the game had Pope not ‘turned into a super saiyan goalkeeper’ late on.

However, it would feel harsh to overlook Areola, whose shot-stopping record this season places him in the 98th percentile among ‘keepers in the top five leagues.

A negociação entre Sport e Cruzeiro pelo atacante Judivan está travada. Estava quase certa a ida do jogador para o Leão, mas ao discutir a questão salarial do atleta, os clubes entraram em um impasse. A Raposa quer que o Sport arque com o valor integral dosvencimentos do atacante.

Caso os clubes não cheguem a um acordo, Judivan pode ser emprestado para a Chapecoense ou o América-MG, ambos interessados no jogador.Recentemente, o diretor de futebol do Coelho, Ricardo Drubscky, confirmou uma sondagem por Judivan e lamentou a negociação encaminhada do atacante com o Sport.

Desde 2010 no Cruzeiro, Judivan disputou o Campeonato Mundial Sub-20 com a Seleção Brasileira em 2015. Durante a competição, o atacante lesionou o joelho esquerdo após entrada violenta de um atleta uruguaio. O jogador ficou dois anos sem entrar em campo e voltou a ser relacionado na Raposa no ano passado. Nesta temporada, Judivan atuou contra o Patrocinense, no domingo passado, pela última rodada da fase de classificação do Estadual.

Apesar da dúvida sobre a transferência de Judivan, é provável que outro jogador do Cruzeiro reforce o Leão. O volante Nonoca, negociado de forma separada do atacante, está próximo do Sport. Falta apenas a assinatura do contrato para que meio-campo tenha o empréstimo confirmado pelo Cruzeiro ao time pernambucano.

A move will all depend on the price – with the midfielder’s market value currently at £36m according to Transfermarkt, it could take a lot more than that to prise him away from the Ligue 1 club.

Jurgen Klopp could bolster his midfield with Tchouameni signing

Klopp’s Liverpool side have been superb this season, winning the Carabao Cup and currently in the running for another three trophies in what could be a historic campaign for the Anfield club.

Despite this, the German is constantly seeking to improve his squad, replacing aging stars with young and hungry understudies.

Thiago has been a standout player this season for the Reds, especially in the Premier League, averaging 1.2 key passes per game and completing 89% of his passes.

A team containing him and Tchouameni – who Paul Pogba described as “extraordinary” – would surely excite the Anfield faithful.

The French youngster could even be a better option in Liverpool’s midfield than Naby Keita. Whilst the Guinean has played fewer games than the 22-year-old this season, Tchouameni has a pass completion rate of 87.1% compared to Keita’s 86.5%.

In an attacking sense, the Monaco player has taken more than double the amount of shots that Keita has, with 48 compared to just 20 for the Liverpool man.

Tchouameni has also contributed more heavily in a defensive sense too, making nearly three times as many tackles compared to the Reds ace (91 to 33). These figures show that the Frenchman could be the perfect signing for Liverpool and would likely be an upgrade on some of their options at the moment.

Klopp will have some big decisions to make in the summer transfer window, and a potential swoop for Tchouameni could be among the best of them.
