Segundo Renato, o novo comandante do Benfica tentou fazer a cabeça do atacante tricolor.

Ele ligou segunda pra tentar fazer a cabeça do jogador.

Liverpool: Salah was "shocking" vs Napoli

Liverpool were unable to forget their form in the Premier League last night when they returned to action in the Champions League against Napoli, taking an embarrassing 4-1 defeat from their opening game in Europe.

Jurgen Klopp will be left reeling following the very poor performance from his team who were quickly swallowed alive by their Italian opponents in Naples, taking their joint-worst defeat in the history of the tournament.

Despite having 61% possession, more accurate passes (88% v 82%) and completing more crosses (8 v 0) Liverpool fell apart from the very start of the game.

James Milner committed the first penalty with a handball in the opening five minutes with Piotr Zieliński finding the back of the net from the spot but the disasters came thick and fast with Virgil Van Dijk giving away another penalty in the box just 11 minutes later, although Alisson was quick to bat away Victor Osimhen’s efforts.

At the half-time whistle, Liverpool found themselves 3-0 down after André Zambo Anguissa and Giovanni Simeone completed the trio of goals for the home side, but it didn’t stop there.

Klopp surely hoped that his side would come out fighting as they have done famously on many occasions in the Champions League, however, Zieliński found the back of the net again to secure his brace and four on the board for Napoli in the second minute of the second half. Despite Luis Diaz’s 49th-minute goal, Liverpool left Italy completely deflated.

One player who has been anonymous for his team on numerous occasions this season is Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian winger earned himself a club record-breaking contract picking up a salary of £350k-per-week but again last night, the Liverpool ace failed to impose himself on his opponents.

Although Milner was one of the main culprits from a defensive point of view, he wasn’t the only man on the night who let his team down. Indeed, over Salah’s 63-minute appearance – whose touch on the night was dubbed “shocking” by journalist Paul Gorst – he lost 100% of his aerial and ground duels (0/3), remarkably made no dribble attempts, delivered none of his crosses (0/3) and lost the ball every 2.6 touches before Klopp took him off.

Based on those numbers, it was a display that was extraordinarily out of character with the normal level of performance we’ve been accustomed to seeing from him.

The 156-goal machine has been struggling to get back to his best since re-joining the side after the African Cup of Nations in January, with just seven goals in the second half of last season and this term, the inconsistency in front of goal has continued with just two strikes to his name so far.

Salah’s struggle is something his manager must address as the player is heavily depended on for his goal contributions to the team, especially now with his partner in crime, Sadio Mane, is out of the picture. Thus, finding Salah’s appetite for goals again is a huge area of concern if the Reds are to rediscover their best form. At the moment, he is playing to a rather shocking level and that must be fixed as soon as possible.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see what moves Klopp makes next as Liverpool prepare for their Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend. The manager will certainly be hoping that his star player can finally find some form and confidence sooner rather than later.

Liverpool had a mare over Markovic

In an alternative reality, Brendan Rodgers might have gone down in the history books as one of Liverpool’s most successful managers. If Steven Gerrard hadn’t made that infamous slip against Chelsea while the club were chasing their first league title since 1990, and first ever Premier League crown, his legacy might have been totally different.

In reality, however, the 2013/2014 season was the only campaign that he really challenged for a major prize, and his reign was filled with abject performances and a raft of poor signings, with one particularly pricey move trumping the rest as arguably the worst…

Rodgers had a shocker on Markovic

Following Liverpool’s near miss in 2013/2014, Rodgers aimed to strengthen the team so he could mount another serious title challenge and although Luis Suarez joined Barcelona for £75m, he used these funds to bring in a few fresh faces.

Lazar Markovic was one of these signings, brought to Anfield from Benfica for a fee of £20m, with Andy Brassell describing him as a “rare talent” following the move, it seemed like Rodgers had gotten Liverpool a bargain.

Fast forward eight years and Markovic is turning out for Gaziantep FK in Turkey as the move turned out to be a disaster for Rodgers.

In total, the winger made only 34 appearances for Liverpool, scoring three times and registering only one assist as the club struggled to replicate their title challenge from the season before, finishing in sixth place.

Markovic cost Liverpool £588k-per-appearance, a staggering amount considering his return product was extremely poor, and if you break that down into Premier League goals, the ratio works out at just over £6.5m per goal.

He arrived a young talent ready to take England by storm and left with his tail between his legs, with loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, Hull City, and Anderlecht all following his solitary campaign at Anfield.

Rodgers was gone in October 2015 to be replaced by Jurgen Klopp and slowly but steadily, he brought them back to the summit of the English game.

Thankfully, the German is much more diligent when it comes to the transfer market, and blunders such as Markovic have become few and far between since he began his tenure at the club.

West Brom: Bruce under major ‘pressure’

West Brom manager Steve Bruce is under ‘genuine pressure’ at The Hawthorns for ‘the first time’, according to The Athletic’s Elias Burke.

The Lowdown: One win…

The Baggies fell to a second league defeat of the season on Wednesday, with Birmingham City running out 3-2 winners at The Hawthorns.

The loss left West Brom in 20th place and level on points with third-bottom Swansea City. A victory against Hull City remains West Brom’s only league win all season, and it looks as if time could be running out for Bruce.

The Latest: Burke’s post

West Brom correspondent Burke took to Twitter on Thursday, claiming that Bruce is now ‘under genuine pressure’ as Baggies boss.

The reporter added that Bruce’s ‘struggle to fix persisting problems’ is ‘the biggest concern’.

The Verdict: One last chance?

It looks as if the walls could be closing in on Bruce, so Saturday’s trip to Norwich City may well be make or break for the 61-year-old.

Another defeat could possibly spell the end of his time at the club, with Bruce winning just eight of his 28 games in charge so far. He was brought in to take the club back to the Premier League, however, at this moment in time, the Baggies are looking over their shoulder towards the drop, which could persuade the board to make another change in management.

Manchester City hit by triple injury blow

Pep Guardiola has delivered some huge injury news regarding a trio of first-team players following Manchester City’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

The Lowdown: Injury concerns for Man City

Ruben Dias was previously out of action for seven weeks earlier in the season after sustaining a hamstring injury, and he was forced off the pitch in the win over the Magpies at the weekend with what appeared to be another muscular problem.

John Stones and Kyle Walker are the other two regular members of the starting XI who join the centre-back on the injury list, with both defenders having to be withdrawn during the Sky Blues’ Champions League semi-final tie against Real Madrid over the last fortnight.

Stones was substituted in the pulsating 4-3 first leg win and hasn’t played since, whilst the right-back limped off the field at the Bernabeu last week after being risked by the Spaniard to start.

The Latest: Guardiola gives injury update

Speaking during his post-match press conference with the media on Sunday, Guardiola shared an update on the trio, and it’s not one that City fans will want to hear.

He revealed: “Ruben, Kyle and John are out until the end of the season. Next pre-season maybe they will be ready.

“[Ruben’s problem is] muscular. Not the same position, but hamstring.”

The Verdict: Huge blow for Man City

This news will come as a hammer blow to Guardiola and City as we approach the run-in to the season, with just three league games left to play for the defending champions.

This now leaves Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo as the only senior defenders available for selection for the rest of the campaign, which means that the 51-year-old might have to rely on some younger prospects to come into the team or play someone like Fernandinho out of his natural position as cover.

City currently find themselves three points clear at the top of the table following Liverpool’s recent slip-up against Tottenham, so they are firmly in pole position to get their hands on the Premier League trophy for the second season in a row. However, being without three of their regular defenders for the run-in could make the title charge that little bit harder.

Rangers suffer Doekhi transfer setback

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is on the brink of leading Rangers to a historic double this season. With the Europa League and Scottish Cup finals to be played over the next seven days, the Dutchman could swat away earlier critics by landing both trophies for the Ibrox club.

Relinquishing the Premiership title is a bitter pill to swallow, however, this could well be surpassed by continental success.

The manager has already had one transfer window to bring in new players, and although the likes of Aaron Ramsey and James Sands arrived on loan deals, nobody signed permanently at Ibrox to improve the starting XI.

With a busy summer facing Van Bronckhorst as he attempts to wrestle the Premiership crown back from Celtic, there will likely be plenty of transfer activity around the blue half of Glasgow.

However, one player who won’t be arriving at Ibrox this year is Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi, who has turned the club down according to reports.

Dutch outlet de Gelderlander have claimed that Doekhi has turned down a move to Rangers in favour of Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.

The report stated that he has signed a four-year deal at the German club, with the opportunity to play in one of the best leagues on the continent obviously too much to resist.

This is a major blow to the Ibrox outfit as they are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements. With the likes of Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun yet to sign new contracts ahead of their current deals expiring this summer, along Filip Helander’s constant injury woes, a centre-back addition must be a priority.

John Souttar has already signed a pre-contract deal with the club, but this won’t be enough if Van Bronckhorst aims for domestic glory and a shot at Champions League success next season.

It could be a long summer ahead for the Gers faithful, so let’s hope they have other targets in mind after the setback with Doekhi. That development is sure to have left Ibrox chief Ross Wilson fuming, with the long-time Rangers target ultimately moving elsewhere.

AND in other news, Wilson heading for big Rangers disaster on “ridiculous” £6.4k-p/w tank, Van Bronckhorst needs him…

Man United make an approach for Antony

Manchester United have appointed their new manager Erik ten Hag who will take the reigns at Old Trafford imminently and he could be about to bring some of his players over with him from Ajax.

What’s the latest?

According to Portuguese news outlet UOL (via Sport Witness), the Red Devils are battling with fierce rivals Liverpool to sign Brazilian winger Antony this summer.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

The report suggests that the two Premier League clubs are in ‘dispute’ over the signing as both have made an approach to put the feelers out on whether the player would be open to a move to join them.

It is believed that Antony would favour a move to the English league over La Liga after a further approach was reportedly made by Barcelona.

Ten Hag needs him

Manchester United would surely have an advantage on other clubs interested due to the fact they have recently hired Antony’s former manager, and when you look at the current forward line at Old Trafford it is clear that Ten Hag needs him.

There have been issues with Marcus Rashford this season who has had a complete drop of in form and with reports of the winger considering a move away from his boyhood club in the North West due to a lack of game-time, it could be the perfect opportunity for the club to inject a fresh perspective and a new creative outlet into the attacking positions.

When you compare Rashford to Antony this season, it is clear that the £50m Brazilian would be a huge upgrade on the current Man United winger, scoring four more goals, creating 28 more big chances, with over twice as many shots on target and over 20% better crossing accuracy compared to his position competitor, according to Squawka.

Ten Hag recently claimed Antony was “top-class” when discussing the 22-year-old’s future in an interview (via The United Stand):

” If Antony were to go, it would be a loss for Ajax. He is top class,” the Dutch coach admitted.

With that being said, if Ten Hag can beat the competitors to secure the signing he could be onto something special with a player he knows how to get the best out of already, meaning he can be an instant hit and thrive at Old Trafford alongside Cristiano Ronaldo next season.

Celtic learn Carter-Vickers deal deadline

Celtic and Ange Postecoglou showed during the previous summer transfer window how efficient they can be in terms of moving players in and out of the club, securing loan and permanent deals for the ones that joined.

Now that the Hoops have taken the SPFL title away from their Glasgow rivals, their focus can now turn to the next summer window as they look to replicate and potentially improve on the success they had this time around.

With that in mind, it seems as though a big behind the scenes detail has emerged regarding one potential transfer that could take place at the Parkhead club.

What’s the news?

According to journalist Larry Henry Jr on Twitter, Celtic have a deadline of June 15 to secure a permanent transfer deal for Cameron Carter-Vickers, which they have reportedly been looking to secure.

He also added that Everton, Fulham and AFC Bournemouth “are in the race” to sign the defender from his senior club Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

In full, Henry said: “Everton and Fulham are in the race for Cameron Carter-Vickers, should Celtic not agree to a transfer with Tottenham prior to June 12, a source close to the player confirmed. CCV heading to June USMNT camp and coming off two trophy haul with Celtic this season.”

It was later revealed that the player has agreed personal terms on a move but a transfer is certainly not a done deal and he could still have his head turned by the jaws of England’s top-flight. This is certainly a story to keep tabs on.

Postecoglou must act

To put it simply, however, Ange Postecoglou and the club’s hierarchy must act quickly to get things done.

Since arriving at Celtic Park last summer from Spurs on loan, the American has been a crucial figure for the Bhoys, making 42 appearances across all competitions.

With 30 SPFL appearances to his name, the defender earned himself an overall performance rating of 7.33/10 from WhoScored, making him the fourth-highest rated player in Postecoglou’s squad.

In terms of his defensive output, the 24-year-old ended the 2021/22 campaign with the joint-highest number of interceptions (38) from a Celtic player in the SPFL.

This shows just how important he was in Celtic’s title-winning season and why they ended the campaign with fewer goals conceded than any other side in the division.

This latest update could be a worrying one for Celtic and their supporters given the knowledge that other clubs that will be playing in the Premier League next season are sniffing around a potential move for the Bhoys loan star.

Now that the Scottish champions have an apparent deadline to seal a permanent deal for Carter-Vickers, it would be in everyone’s best interest to secure his signature as soon as possible so they can put the issue to bed and move on to furter transfer targets.

However, it could also be a worry if the prospect of playing regularly in the Premier League would be enough to see the Spurs player turn down a permanent move to Parkhead.

Leeds and Burnley lawsuit on Everton

Finance expert Kieran Maguire has now revealed some significant news involving Everton.

The Lowdown: Leeds and Burnley compensation

As shared by iNews, both Leeds United and Burnley are now seeking £200m in compensation in order to try and offset the advantage that the Goodison Park outfit have received through alleged overspending.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-5/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

It is understood that representatives from the two clubs have formally requested that the Premier League order them not to delete any relevant information with regards to their accounts.

The Latest: Maguire shares latest

Speaking to Football Insider, Maguire has revealed that both Leeds and Burnley have decided to pursue a compensation claim regardless of which team were to get relegated to the Championship:

“There are some precedents which need to be considered.

“There was the Carlos Tevez case in 2005. West Ham agreed an out-of-court settlement with Sheffield United. That was nothing to do with FFP because it didn’t exist then.

“But we have recently had a settlement between the owners of Derby County and Middlesbrough with regards to FFP breaches.

“You can understand why Burnley and Leeds are doing this. My understanding is that they have decided to pursue this regardless of who got relegated.”

The Verdict: Significant

The fact that Leeds and Burnley are pursuing this, despite the Clarets going down and Leeds and the Toffees staying up, is significant.

The claim could have easily been thought of in bitter taste, but it looks as if the Blues could still have a potential problem on their hands given Leeds’ involvement even after staying up.

If the claim is successful, then this may alter their transfer plans significantly for the summer, and they will not want to be restricted spending-wise again, after only spending a mere £1.7m last summer.

Nonetheless, the Merseyside club will still be confident that they have not broken any rules, and will continue with their plans as normal for now.

Wolves: TEAMtalk make Brereton-Diaz claim

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

The lowdown: Breakout season

Formerly of the Manchester United academy, Brereton-Diaz had spells at Stoke City and Nottingham Forest before finding a home in Lancashire.

Prior to the recently competed 2021/22 campaign, the 23-year-old centre-forward’s highest scoring season was just seven league goals.

However, with 22 strikes and three assists in the Championship last term, Stoke-born Brereton-Diaz earned international recognition from Chile owing to his Chilean mother and is now appearing on the radar of numerous clubs…

The latest: Premier League interest

As per TEAMtalk, Wolves are believed to be ‘in the running’ to sign the 11-cap ace this summer.

The report states that whilst Blackburn are looking to ‘cash in’ on their frontman, the Wanderers face stiff competition from Leeds United, Southampton, Brighton and newly promoted Nottingham Forest.

It’s also claimed La Liga duo Sevilla and Almeria are also both keen on the £20million-rated Brereton-Diaz who was praised for his ‘extraordinary’ work rate by Tony Mowbray following an eye-catching hat-trick against Cardiff City in September 2021.

The verdict: Make it happen

After Wolves ended the season with only 38 Premier League goals, a goal a game and less than every club outside of the relegation zone, Bruno Lage must add additional firepower to the Molineux squad during the transfer window.

Talismanic target man Raul Jimenez returned to full fitness, but the Mexican could only manage six goals, the same as Daniel Podence at the top of the Old Gold scoring charts for 2021/22. Whilst the return of Pedro Neto will alleviate some of the goalscoring responsibility, with Fabio Silva still struggling to make the step up to the senior level, at least one striker signing is a necessity.

Boasting strong dribbling, finishing and aerial prowess (WhoScored), Brereton-Diaz is like for like to Jimenez in terms of style and would therefore be the ideal candidate to strengthen the Wolves’ ranks.
