New target: Man United weighing up move for "exciting" ace Ten Hag loves

Manchester United are now weighing up a move for an "exciting" midfielder, and Erik ten Hag is personally driving the deal, according to a report.

Who are Man United signing in January?

If Man United want to bring in extra reinforcements during the January transfer window, there may have to be a couple of sales, with Football Insider reporting they could sanction the departure of midfielder Scott McTominay, amid interest from Bayern Munich.

The report makes it clear United will need to be "financially savvy" if there are to be any new arrivals this winter, following a summer of big spending, and McTominay does not feature prominently in Ten Hag's plans, despite starting against Brighton.

Selling the Scotland international could generate "big funds", which the Red Devils may choose to reinvest on a new central midfielder, having been linked with LDU Quito's Oscar Zambrano, who is attracting the interest of a number of Europe's top clubs.

Ten Hag may also have to think about replacing Jadon Sancho, with the winger now open to an exit in the January transfer window, meaning Bayern Munich's Serge Gnabry could be targeted, alongside Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams.

According to reports from Spain, Man United are also closely following the performances of Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren, following his breakthrough campaign in the Belgian Pro League last season (via Man Utd News).

Ten Hag is said to be a big fan of the midfielder, which indicates the manager is driving the deal, but there will be competition for his signature, as Barcelona are also named as potential suitors.

Xavi will have the chance to assess the 18-year-old during Barca's Champions League clash against Royal Antwerp at Camp Nou this evening, after keeping tabs on his progress so far this season.

How good is Arthur Vermeeren?

Although he is only 18-years-old, the maestro has already established himself in the Royal Antwerp team, having started every game in all competitions this season, weighing in with a total of two assists in nine appearances.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has lauded the Royal Antwerp starlet as "incredibly mature", while also branding him "one of the most exciting prospects in Belgium", so it is exciting news that Man United are in the race for his signature.

The central midfielder has also been hailed as a "breakout star" by Goal Features Editor Tom Maston, in light of the impact he made for Antwerp in the 2022-23 campaign, scoring a vital goal in the title race back in May.

With McTominay potentially set to be on the move in the January transfer window, it is vital that Ten Hag brings in a replacement, and the Belgian is showing signs he could be ready to slot right into the first team, despite his age.

That would make Vermeeren an ideal signing for Man United, rather than bringing in a player like Zambrano, who is yet to prove himself outside the Ecuadorian Serie A, and would need more time to adjust to the Premier League.

Liverpool Submit £26m Bid For "High-Quality" Maestro

Liverpool have submitted a bid of €30m (£26m) for Fluminense midfielder Andre, and they have now received a response from the Brazilian club, according to a report from ESPN.

What's the latest Liverpool transfer news?

The Reds have been linked with a late summer move for Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips, and The Express report Pep Guardiola has already given the green light for the midfielder to leave this summer, which means a move to Anfield could be on the cards.

However, more progress has been made in the pursuit of Ryan Gravenberch, with Liverpool already tabling a contract offer to the Bayern Munich midfielder, who they will be one of the favourites to sign if he makes it clear he wants to leave the German club.

According to Rudy Galetti, there is a quartet of targets on Jurgen Klopp's shortlist, with the journalist recently telling GiveMeSport: “Despite the surprising arrival at Liverpool of Endo, the names followed by the Reds remain substantially the same, including Gravenberch, Kone, Thuram and Amrabat."

There are a plethora of options for Liverpool as we approach the final week of the transfer window, and they have now made a bid of €30m (£26m) for Fluminense midfielder Andre, but they have seen their approach knocked back by the Brazilian club.

According to ESPN, Fluminense have no interest in selling the midfielder before the end of their season, and they would not allow the player to leave, even if the Merseyside club were to submit an increased offer.

The 22-year-old is a key player for manager Fernando Diniz, having played 40 games this season, so the club are reluctant to sanction his departure, which may put an end to the Reds' interest.

Klopp's side are not expected to make an offer for the Brazilian in 2024, and they will now run the rule over other potential candidates to strengthen their midfield.

How good is Andre?

Having emerged as a key player for Fluminense, the defensive midfielder has earned his first call-up to his national side, being capped for Brazil in a friendly against Senegal back in June.

As such, it is clear the Fluminense star is thought of in very high regard internationally, and it is no surprise that Klopp was keen on signing him, considering his exceptional passing and dribbling ability.

Liverpool are set to miss out on the "high-quality roaming playmaker", but they still have a number of options available, some of which are already proven at Premier League level, including Phillips, who could be a fantastic alternative to Andre.

Although he is five years older than the Brazil international, at 27, the Man City ace already has 61 Premier League appearances under his belt, which means he would be a low-risk option, particularly if he is available on loan, as has been suggested.

It is disappointing that Liverpool have seen their bid for Andre knocked back, but it would be unwise to submit a higher offer for a player unproven outside of Brazil, particularly considering Fluminense have no plans to let him leave.

"Told he’s off" – TalkSPORT Transfer Update On Leeds Striker Target

Leeds United have received a big boost in their efforts to sign West Ham forward Michail Antonio during the summer transfer window, following a new update.

How much does Michail Antonio earn?

The Jamaican, who currently earns £85,000 per week at the London Stadium, has proven to be an impressive Premier League attacker for a sustained period of time now, becoming a key part of the Hammers' squad since arriving from Nottingham Forest back in the summer of 2015.

Blessed with immense physicality, Antonio has the potential to be a nightmare for opposition defenders on his day, scoring 75 goals and registering 43 assists in 277 appearances for West Ham, causing problems for some of the best centre-backs around.

The 33-year-old only has one more year remaining on his current Hammers deal, however, and it could be that they allow him to leave this summer, rather than see him depart on a free transfer in 2024. He did start in last Saturday's 1-1 draw away to Bournemouth, however, winning four aerial duels in the game.

Leeds are badly in need of attacking signings before the current transfer window reaches its conclusion, having lost key man Rodrigo earlier in the summer, and they have been linked with a move for Antonio, as have Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.

Now, a new update has emerged regarding his future – one that could be a positive one for the Whites.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio.

Will Leeds sign Michail Antonio?

According to talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil [via MOT Leeds News], Antonio is now fully expected to depart West Ham this summer, with his exit almost guaranteed, though it is not clear which direction he is headed:

"I’m told he’s off. He’s off. I’m told someone has helped pack him and he’s on his way."

Antonio could be just what Leeds are looking for between now and the end of the month, should he be willing to drop down a division and test himself in the Championship, having played in the competition for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest down the years.

At 33, there is clearly an argument to say that the Jamaica international's best days are now behind him, but journalist Liam Twomey has called him a "magnificent niusance" in the past, and he still possesses the physical traits to cause problems, as evidenced by his aerial dominance last weekend.

Antonio has got 61 goal contributions (28 goals and 33 assists) in 142 Championship appearances in the past, showing that he knows how to excel in the division, and he is someone who could spearhead Leeds' promotion push, putting his experience to good use and linking with the attacking players around him.

Granted, he wouldn't be seen as a long-term signing, given his age, but there is no reason why he couldn't enjoy a couple of strong years at Elland Road, having scored once against the Whites in the past.

Scoring goals was an issue for Leeds at times last season, and with Rodrigo gone and Patrick Bamford looking like a shadow of the player he was a couple of years ago, it is essential that the right centre forward comes in to bolster Daniel Farke's options.

Leeds United: Radrizzani was eyeing huge £70m raid

Leeds United have had to 'pivot' their interest in Bristol City playmaker Alex Scott and Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun due to being relegated to the Sky Bet Championship, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Who are Alex Scott and Folarin Balogun getting linked with this window?

Earlier this year, Leeds United held reported interest in Bristol City ace Scott and Arsenal striker Balogun when they still held hope of being able to cling on to their Premier League status.

Since then, it has been revealed by Football Insider that Wolverhampton Wanderers are 'closing in' on Scott and will submit another bid for his services following two declined offers this window, with the second proposal said to be worth £20 million.

The report states that the Guernsey-born man is valued at £25 million by his current employers. At the same time, Bournemouth are also keen to offer Scott a route to the English top flight; however, Wolves look to have the edge in proceedings just now.

In the case of Balogun, he is attracting attention from Italian giants Inter Milan, though his £50 million asking price has led the Italian giants to assess alternative options to bolster their striking department, according to The Evening Standard.

West Ham United forward Gianluca Scamacca has been earmarked as a potential arrival at San Siro and Roma are also in pursuit of the Italy international.

CBS Sports detail that Balogun is sought after by Premier League trio Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and West Ham United; nevertheless, Arsenal are not expected to rush into any prospective sale.

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Jacobs has indicated that Leeds United moving for either player is now completely off the table due to their fall into the Sky Bet Championship.

Jacobs told FFC: "They've had to pivot, Leeds, that's the thing to say, because some of the players that they were looking at were with a view to staying in the Premier League. They wanted, for example, Bristol City's Alex Scott; they were even considering Balogun and now they've gone down, neither of those players are going to be a possibility."

Who have Leeds United turned their attentions towards?

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has begun work in recruiting bodies for the 2023/24 campaign and made his first signing of the summer earlier this week with the addition of Wales international Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea, as per BBC Sport.

Former Whites ace Sam Byram has returned to the club on a trial basis and has the chance to win a deal at Elland Road following his departure from Norwich City at the end of last term, according to Football Insider.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has detailed on Twitter that Leeds United are keen to add Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Edouard Michut to their ranks, stating: "Excl: Leeds United are among several clubs interested in Edouard Michut from Paris Saint-Germain. Deal will depend on conditions decided by PSG in the coming days."

AC Milan striker Divock Origi has emerged as a slightly ambitious target, according to Sport Mediaset via Sport Witness, signifying that plenty is going on with regard to recruitment in the building at Elland Road just now.

Hogan hounds Worcestershire ahead of semi-final

Glamorgan secured back to back victories under new skipper Michael Hogan as they completed a nine wicket success over faltering Worcestershire with a day and a half to spare at New Road.Hogan led from the front with the ball, claiming the first three wickets in Worcestershire’s second innings as they were bowled out for 129 after resuming on 34 for 1 to leave Glamorgan requiring just 16 to win.He finished with 5 for 38 from 14.2 overs to follow his 5 for 49 in the win over Durham – his initial match in charge – and also received excellent support from Timm van Gugten and Lukas Carey. It was the first time the Welsh County have won two Championship games in a row for two years since a sequence of four successive victories in June 2015.Hogan has replaced Jacques Rudolph as Glamorgan’s four-day captain until the end of the season and launched his tenure with a thrilling two wicket win at Swansea. But this was a more convincing triumph and all the more satisfactory against a side who had won their opening four Championship games and inflicted an eight wicket defeat on them inside seven sessions at the SWALEC Stadium.Rudolph also showed a welcome return to form after relinquishing the captaincy with his first Championship hundred for two years to lay the foundations of a Glamorgan recovery from 58 for 6 on the opening day.Worcestershire, in contrast, have suffered two defeats in a row after a quartet of victories to launch the campaign. It is not the ideal preparation for their Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final with Yorkshire Vikings or Surrey at New Road on Saturday.Several of their middle order batsmen are struggling for form and only 19-year-old Josh Tongue and skipper Joe Leach posed a major threat with the ball in this game. The big plus for them will be the return of all-rounder John Hastings after Australia’s exit from the ICC Trophy and the hope he can help galvanise the squad to reproduce their early season form.Hogan had sent back Daryl Mitchell yesterday evening and made the first two breakthroughs this morning as Brett D’Oliveira was trapped lbw and Joe Clarke departed to a head high catch by Will Bragg at cover.Ben Cox tried to cut Lukas Carey and Colin Ingram at first slip held onto a juggling catch before Tim van der Gugten struck in successive overs. The out of form Tom Fell battled away for 33 off 87 balls but then fell victim to a superb head high catch by Ingram and in the next over Ed Barnard nicked through to keeper Chris Cooke. The procession continued after lunch as the final four wickets fell to Hogan and Carey for 10 runs in 5.3 overs.Leach chopped Hogan onto his stumps, Whiteley steered Carey to gulley, Tongue nicked the same bowler through to keeper Chris Cooke and Nathan Lyon swung at Hogan and was bowled.Glamorgan lost Nick Selman – bowled by Barnard for three – in reaching their modest target.

Rangers Could Sign Big Matondo Upgrade At Ibrox

Glasgow Rangers manager Michael Beale has been a busy man in the summer transfer window as he has wrapped up a host of deals with the aim of improving his playing squad.

Sam Lammers, Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland, and Kieran Dowell have all arrived at Ibrox on a permanent basis, while Abdallah Sima has joined on loan until the end of the season.

These fresh additions to the side have opened the door for the club to move on some of the fringe players from the team, including Welsh winger Rabbi Matondo.

Journalist Darren Witcoop revealed that the Light Blues are prepared to cash in on the former FC Schalke prospect, with a move south of the border seemingly on the cards.

The reporter recently Tweeted: "Wales international Rabbi Matondo is free to leave Glasgow Rangers this summer. Matondo spent a loan spell with Stoke in 2021 and could return to English football after being made available by the Scottish club."

Beale could now replace the ex-Manchester City man by landing Swansea forward Morgan Whittaker, who would be a big upgrade on the 22-year-old livewire.

What's the latest on Morgan Whittaker to Rangers?

Towards the end of last month, the Daily Record reported that the Gers are looking to move on some players and that they will then eye further signings, with the club said to still be interested in a deal to sign the Championship attacker.

This comes after the Light Blues failed to snap him up from the Welsh outfit during the January transfer window, after his loan spell with Plymouth Argyle.

Beale must now complete a swoop for the 22-year-old as his statistics for Plymouth last season suggest that the potential is there for him to offer more than Matondo.

Whittaker averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.10 across 25 League One appearances and contributed with an impressive nine goals to go along with seven assists. This is a deadly asset simply chomping at the bit to play at a higher level.

To put those numbers into context, Malik Tillman (ten) was the only Gers midfielder or winger with more than six league strikes while Ryan Kent (nine) was the only forward with over seven assists in the Scottish Premiership last season.

Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo.

These statistics suggest that Whittaker could be one of Beale's most productive attackers if the talented dynamo is able to translate his impressive form in England over to Scotland.

He would also come in as a big upgrade on Matondo after the former Schalke man struggled badly in his debut season with the Glasgow giants.

The £28k-per-week wide man averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.74 over 19 Premiership outings as he failed to find the back of the net and produced just four assists for his teammates.

Whittaker, who talent scout Jacek Kulig described as "flamboyant", could be an upgrade on the current Gers winger both in terms of the threat he can pose as a scorer of goals as well as being a creator, while his average performance level may also be far greater.

This is why Beale must push for the club to cash in on Matondo in order to open the door for the Swansea man to come in ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Fulham: Whites Attempt Imminent Move For World Cup Star

Fulham are "trying to sign" Fortuna Düsseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka alongside Premier League rivals and "an agreement could be reached in the coming days", according to reports.

Who will join Fulham this summer?

The Whites, after a successful first full campaign back in the top flight, are reportedly looking to back manager Marco Silva with fresh faces and won't be letting their star players go for nothing.

Indeed, reports in the last few days have even suggested that Fulham are set to demand a lofty £90 million for star midfielder Joao Palhinha, coming as the likes of Man United, Liverpool and West Ham take interest.

The Portugal international was sensational under Silva last season, prompting his stock to rise dramatically, so Fulham chiefs certainly won't be letting him go on the cheap.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Fulham are after United midfielder Fred, with manager Erik ten Hag apparently willing to sanction his sale. The Brazilian, who has just over a year remaining on his current deal, is open to joining the west Londoners.

Elsewhere, but staying in midfield, Silva's side are attempting a move for Japan international Tanaka this summer but face a battle with West Ham.

That is according to German newspaper Rheinische Post, who claim both Fulham and the Hammers are "trying to sign" Tanaka and "an agreement could be reached in the coming days".

They also relay comments from Dusseldorf sporting director Klaus Allofs, who states that the 24-year-old could be eyeing a new opportunity.

"It was clear from the start which path Ao would like to go," said Allofs.

"The second division was not what he was looking for. But he didn't come to me either and said he really wanted to leave.

"If there's a situation that makes sense for both of you, then that's totally fine. If that doesn't work, he'll remain our player and do a good job."

Who is Ao Tanaka?

Over his 22 German second tier appearances for Dusselforf last season, Tanaka averaged their second-highest rate of tackles per 90 (WhoScored).

The defensive midfielder also featured at last year's 2022 World Cup, where he faced off against the likes of Germany and Spain in Group E of the tournament.

Avid watchers of the World Cup will remember him as the player who scored an historic winner in their 2-1 group stage win over Spain.

Indeed, Tanaka sealed all three points for his country and one of the shock results of Qatar midway through the second half.
