Arsenal fans savage Spurs after another embarrassing defeat

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal’s Under-18 team came from 2-0 down to beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 on Tuesday.

After falling 2-0 down, an exceptional late comeback saw the young Gunners emerge victorious.

Bukayo Saka pulled a goal back in the 85th minute before Brooklyn Lyons-Foster scored an own goal, inadvertently turning in a Saka cross. And, in injury time, Ben Cottrell scored the winner as the Gunners’ Under-18 side ended Spurs’ impressive unbeaten run this season.

Arsenal have now won 18 and lost just two of their 20 games this term, while Spurs have won 16, drawn two and lost one.

The Gunners have a four-point lead over Spurs at the top of the Under-18 Premier League South, though the young Lilywhites do have a game in hand.

And fans have revelled in the result, which came less than 24 hours after Arsenal leapfrogged Spurs in the Premier League following their 2-0 win over Newcastle United at the Emirates.

Spurs fans react to Gazza’s plea to play for legends

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur icon Paul Gascoigne has used his official Twitter account to urge the club to allow him to play in an upcoming legends’ game against Inter Milan.

The former England international, a star of the 1990 World Cup, became a hero at White Hart Lane, spending four years at the club prior to a move to Lazio in 1992.

Indeed, ‘Gazza’, as he is affectionately known, played a major role in the club’s 1991 FA Cup triumph after scoring a phenomenal free-kick in the semi-final against Arsenal.

And with Spurs hosting a legends’ match against Inter at their new stadium, Gascoigne has taken to Twitter to ask to be involved.

The London Evening Standard report that Spurs hope he will be involved, with Gary Mabbutt, a good friend of Gascoigne, said to be in contact with him over the possibility of the ex-midfielder playing.

And Spurs fans and ex-players alike have pleaded with the club to make it happen, reacting in their droves to their former hero’s tweet.

Sunderland fans fume at referee after Burton stalemate

[ad_pod ]

Sunderland moved back into the automatic promotion places on Tuesday, but fans are fuming at referee Scott Oldham who they feel cost them the chance to go further clear of Barnsley.

The Black Cats’ fate is well and truly back in their hands, as they moved back above Barnsley with just six games left to play, while the Tykes have just five matches remaining.

Jack Ross’ side could be even further out in front though, as a resurgent Burton Albion side nicked a point from the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.

Tom Flanagan put the Brewers in front when he stabbed into his own net, but Jack Baldwin levelled things up from a Grant Leadbitter corner.

Charlie Wyke missed a couple of good chances and Leadbitter struck the woodwork late on, but it is referee Oldham who is drawing the ire of the Wearside faithful.

The standard of refereeing in the lower leagues makes the Premier League’s worst look like the world’s best if truth be told, and Oldham was no exception on Wednesday night.

Nathan Ake can certainly be Tottenham’s next Toby Alderweireld

What a summer Spurs could have on their hands! After signing nobody last summer or in January, they’re being linked with players left, right and centre, but Nathan Ake is a name who should be at the top of their transfer wish list.

The Bournemouth centre-back has been a revelation since leaving the shadows of Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017, and the Daily Star are linking him with Spurs. He’s strong in the air, level-headed, and positionally aware, and that’s just what Mauricio Pochettino could do with.

Toby Alderweireld has been excellent in the Spurs backline, allowing their talented attackers to push forward without having to worry too much about the counter-attack. All this when Spurs haven’t really had a stand-out, quality defensive midfielder to sit in front and protect him.

They certainly could still do with a defensive midfielder in summer, but what an addition Nathan Ake would be to tightening their defence against teams like Manchester City, against whom they consistently drop points. He could cost a fortune, but it’d be worth it for the silverware.

He’s only 24-years-old (valued at £25.2m by Transfermarkt these days), so he’s got another seven or eight years at the very top of his game. Alderweireld is 30, and while he’s still got a season or two left in his at this level, it’d be perfect to see Ake learn from the Belgian and take over his role and Spurs’ main man at the back.

Even if the former Atletico man departs in the summer, Ake would be a ready-made replacement.

He’ll be wanting first team football though, because he’s experienced enough time on the bench at Chelsea to last a lifetime. That’s another pull factor for Spurs because they haven’t got the squad depth his old club or other elite European sides have. He should go straight into the starting line-up, surely.

As Spurs move into their new stadium and look to push for silverware, Nathan Ake can be the man to ensure the new era at White Hart Lane is a successful one.

Newcastle United: Lee Charnley set to do the most Lee Charnley thing ever

Fans have long asked questions over Lee Charnley’s ability to be successful in his managing director’s role at Newcastle United, due to his failure to secure signings and constant bungling of straightforward looking deals.

So it will come as no surprise to fans that a report out today from the Daily Mail suggests that the club are unwilling to offer more than £12 million for star loanee striker, Salomón Rondón.

The asking price is £16m. The asking price has always been £16m. And if West Brom are still a Championship side in May, the asking price will continue to be £16m.

It is not a secret. It is etched into his contract, and the Baggies, the player and his agent will all have told Charnley as much.

Naturally, Charnley being the tremendous transfer negotiator that he is [insert sarcasm here], mulls over the deal and comes up with the logic [!] that, with increased interest in the player mounting all the time, and competition for his signature in the summer, a way-short £12m offer will get the deal done.

If true, how much more incompetence must be shown before Ashley makes the decision to replace him with someone who has a football background, and knows what it takes to negotiate with clubs.

The problem is, Ashley, allegedly (as per the Shields Gazette), has Charnley on a salary that is dwarfed by other clubs, and he knows that to bring someone else in would mean paying out more money.

But surely, failure to sign a player who is currently at the club, insists he wants to stay at the club and has a sell-on clause in his contract, must spell the end for Charnley.

His counter-argument will be the Miguel Almirón deal. He made a take it or leave it offer to Atlanta — short of any asking price, of course — and stuck to his guns, until the MLS side caved and accepted the bid.

But his argument is not really valid. In this particular case, they had already brought in Almirón’s replacement and with only being allowed a certain number of franchise players, they had to move the Paraguayan out, but with little other interest, the only option was Newcastle.

And, had Charnley got the deal done quickly, for the sake of — in football terms — pocket change, he could have been playing for the Magpies throughout January.

He has become renowned with dragging deals out, and more often than not, seeing them end in the player going elsewhere.

Some may argue he is working with Ashley’s hand pulling the strings, but when it comes to deals, if the money is released, it is his job to get them done, and the owner takes a back seat.

As much as Ashley is to blame for most of Newcastle’s shortcomings, Charnley shares a portion of the blame, and needs to be held to account for his failings.

What do you think of Lee Charnley’s role at Newcastle? Should he be replaced with someone more knowledgeable? Who would you bring in? Let us know…

Potential summer arrival: Tottenham fans call on club to move for Grimaldo

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been on social media discussing a potential move for Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo in this summer’s transfer window.

According to A Bola, via Hotspur Lane Twitter account, Spurs have scouted the left-back on a number of occasions this season with the view to a potential bid.

Grimaldo came through the youth system at Barcelona, but did not make a single first-team appearance for the Spanish giants before joining Benfica in 2015.

The 23-year-old has scored an impressive seven goals and contributed six assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for his Portuguese club this season.

It would not be a surprise to see Spurs move for a new left-back this summer as neither Ben Davies nor Danny Rose have really convinced for long spells this term.

And it seems that the London club’s fans are in favour of chairman Daniel Levy pursuing Grimaldo’s signature.

He’s going already?! Liverpool fans aren’t having claims that Naby Keita will be sold

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to state their disbelief at claims that Naby Keita will be sold after just one season at the club.

It has been reported that the Reds are set to cash in on the Guinean international having only signed him back in the summer, and are willing to take a £10m loss on the 24-year-old after a disappointing campaign.

Are the media letting Jurgen Klopp off lightly for his lack of silverware? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…

Jurgen Klopp chose to bed the former RB Leipzig man in slowly, before giving him his first real run in the team last month in a period where Keita made four successive starts. Despite impressing in those games, the midfielder has since dropped out of the team and hasn’t made a start since.

He has hardly been a flop, but it wouldn’t be unfair to say that Liverpool fans were expecting a lot more from the second most expensive signing in their history.

Given how hard Liverpool battled to get Keita to Anfield, fighting off Barcelona in the process, the Reds supporters on Twitter find it hard to believe that he will be moved on so quickly…

West Brom should take better care of their youth players: Fans react as Rogers bags brace

[ad_pod ]West Brom starlet Morgan Rogers found the back of the net twice for England U17s this week as they beat Switzerland 5-2.The 16-year-old opened the scoring after 22 minutes before completing the rout late on.It provoked plenty of fan discussion on Twitter with a host of supporters urging for careful consideration when it comes to the club’s up and coming players. This is because of an apparent trend that sees the Baggies prospects leave too easily. Some individuals ignored those concerns, though, merely praising the midfielder for his display as they labelled him an unreal prospect.Rogers is clearly one of the best talents coming through at the club and has already made his senior debut, playing in the FA Cup earlier this season as he featured off the bench. He has caught the eye recently, winning the PL2 Player of the Month award after scoring four goals in one game against Norwich. It was a month that also saw the impressive youngster claim three assists.

March has been a tough period for West Brom with the sacking of Darren Moore dampening the mood around the club. However, Rogers’ performances provide something to get excited about.

Here’s how some of the Hawthorns faithful reacted.
